I feel like Oricorio's the gen 7 gimmickmon. It ties into the whole 4 islands thing, Mimikyu is just a mascotmon with a good ability.

Usually there's one there to sell the features of the generation. Rotom's got form changes but nothing about him couldn't have been done in gen 3, whereas Chatot takes advantage of the DS' microphone. Similarly Castform's ability lets it change based on the weather, the squid guy from gen 6 uses the gyro sensor, Oricorio highlights the four mini-regions Alola's divided into.

gen 3 was packed full of gimick mons.
Mons built for double battles (like the piketwin and the illumise/volbeat due)
castform had a gimmick ability to show off the weather more.
Keckleon is most certainly a gimick mon due to it's color change ability.
wurmple and nincada could even be considered gimick mons based on their multiple evolutions.

Alola's probably better for this than even Hoenn. Everything getting a signature move/ability with lots of gimmicks for both doubles and singles was great.

Yeah, a unique ability was really what this guy deserved.

Sucks that there's so little reason to use it, if it had even one ability that wasn't super common on birds it would be more interesting.

It has a great moveset, it's stats are just super underwhelming.
I run a shitty set in doubles. Chatot + Electivire, Electivire uses Ion Deluge, Chatot uses Boomburst. Fairly weak attack that hits both opposing pokemon, but Electivire also gains a speed boost which it desperately needs to outspeed shit.

Chatter is a really decent move, and access to Encore and Tailwind are very useful for it.

Chatot is the best
