I actually think he is probably half japanese/Nikkei. Probably is in Alola because he grew up there or one parent did or something, like lots of other Nikkei do.

It's really common I see with other japanese people, like grandparents are from japan, parents are born in hawaii, self is born somewhere in the continental states.
