I always had a theory that Trade Evolutions happened in the wild when the Pokemon challenges the leader of their pack/community/whatever, and either wins or leaves to form a new one as the new leader. It's a thing that several animal species like wolves do.
>>
the protatonists ages are not 11-14, but they received their first pokemons on that age, so there's a time skip between the first games scenes and the journey/story

leaf died during the kanto arc that's why she never appeared again

steven stone travels around the region because he doesn't want to take his father place working in the coorporation
>>
Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny aren't pokemon, but their dad /is/ a ditto that was left at the daycare in Kanto.

In Red/Blue/Yellow there was no breeding function, because you could only leave one pokemon to be raised at a time. But if ditto pairs with whatever else is in the daycare and the only other thing there is a human, it will start pumping out human eggs.

The reason Pikachu is an asshole to Ash in the first episode and is so strong is because it was caught at a young age and released, grew up on the streets, never knew kindness, and became a bitter middle-aged pokemon. It's around 40 in Pikachu-years by the time Oak acquires it. Having a previous owner's trainer ID is why it levels up so quickly under Ash's care, and why it quickly becomes more loyal/obedient as he acquires badges, same as any traded pokemon in the games.

With the exception of special cases like Yamask, most Ghost-type pokemon aren't "ghosts" as we think of them; that is, most of them aren't spirits of deceased people/animals trapped in a state of purgatory or unrest. Most of them are biologic organisms in another dimension, existing in a state of flux between that dimension and ours. This is why they are intangible to normal/fighting attacks.

The first ghost pokemon in the series represent this idea. Ghastly is just a face, because it is only able to peer into our world. Haunter has begun pushing through, hence it is a head and hands. Gengar has pushed all the way through; the spikes on its back are just remnants of the dimensional change conforming around its body as it finally completes the travel. In their own dimension, all three species are just Gengar with differing dimension-hopping capabilities, and they are all tangible. There, they are poison monotypes.

Other ghost pokemon have similar flux between dimensions, but as an all-or-nothing capability. Misdreavus evolving into Mismagius does not represent breaking further into existence, because it has already achieved 100% existence into this reality. For this and other non-Ghastly-line ghost pokemon, evolution represents growth the same way as it does for non-ghost pokemon. The ghost typing is a vestigial component of being from another world.

In a sense, Ghost type pokemon are the first Ultra Beasts, though they are not recognized as such.

Yamask are an example of Ghost type organisms achieving symbiosis with human spirits, and Shuppet are an example of symbiosis with yokai/object-spirits. Spirits exist in the pokemon world but are neither necessary nor sufficient to be Ghost pokemon; the type's name is a misnomer due to human misunderstanding of their tendency to be found near places of spiritual import, such as cemeteries.

Pokemon types exist within the essence of the creature, and are technically what define a pokemon. Ordinary non-pokemon plants and animals exist but have become increasingly rare with the colonization of native habitats by pokemon competing for the same resources (with pokemon at the bottom of the pokemon food-chain still tending to be at the top of the animal foodchain). This is why there are ordinary fish in the early anime, and why a fish is an ordinary animal, unless it manages to represent something about the "idea" of water, at which point it and its descendants become water-type fish pokemon. This is also why Sunfisk is a fish that isn't Water type; it descended from a line of puddle-dwelling fish with an electricity-generating organ, hence it represents the "idea" of Ground and Electricity, but not Water.

Water types are more common because there are more organisms in the ocean and land-locked water combined than there are on the land alone. Most of the other types are confined to land, or at least moreso than Water is confined to the sea. Grass type will eventually be the next type with the most species, given that plants comprise more biomass than any other kingdom of organism. (And, going back to an earlier example, include several fungi, because many fungus-based pokemon are derived from organisms which represent the "idea" of Grass just as well as many true plants do, by absorbing nutrients and entering them back into the environment's bio-cycle.)

Within the Arceus-religion, types are provided to organisms (or objects) when Arceus has deemed that they sufficiently represent a type's idea. Using Bibarel as an example, this grants the ordinary beaver the essence of Water, as well as the essence of Normal. Receiving a type means that it also receives effectiveness/weakness against other types, as well as stat distribution which tends to be characteristic among types (hence why Rock types tend to have high defense, and why Ice tends to have low defense).

Sinnoh is the Pokemon equivalent of the boondocks, full of hillbillies and bible thumpers, and has a serious bestiality epidemic so bad that it's even present in their religious mythology. Sinnohans are viewed with distaste and mockery by residents of other regions and receive poor treatment when traveling abroad, often being "randomly selected" to have their Pokemon investigated for abuse. The reason Cynthia spends so little time in Sinnoh is because she makes frequent trips attempting to improve the global opinion of her region.

Normal type represents a special case where the recipient organism represents the idea of perseverance and hard work, which is why most Normal types are animals or humanoids. Humans and things like them tend to represent the "idea" of overcoming or mastering the environment around them. Most of the animal Pokemon to represent this idea are similar to some degree: Bibarel build damns, Tauros are alpha-males which lead and build their herd, and Rattata infest and populate in fields, forests, cities, and damn near any environment they find themselves in.

Humans are an anomaly in which a non-pokemon species achieved sentience and the ability to generate new ideas. This is why new types will occasionally appear, as when human mythology and folklore generated the "idea" of a Fairy-type, and why suddenly previously Normal-type pokemon became Fairy. There were similar events prior to the games for Fighting and Psychic types, which didn't exist until humans did.

Humans will also occasionally become Pokemon, which accounts for several of the humanoid species; once this happens, that individual is the first of a new Pokemon species. The most famous example of this is the Abra line, though similar cases exist for Jynx, Machop, Ralts, etc.

Palkia and Dialga are actually one and the same, just like time and space are actually one continuum known as spacetime. This is why their designs are so weird and seem to reflect aspects and the typing of the other: Dialga looks more "fluid" and is blue despite not being the water type, and Palkia looks all metalic and is grey despite not being the steel type.

Okay, that was pretty good.

You could still think of it as representing a dominant species, or one that survives in spite of overwhelming odds. Sloths are slow as shit, but still manage to survive a world that outpaces them while burning the same amount of time and energy any animal does while seeking food, hiding from predators, and reproducing.

Then you have ground sloths, arguably the primary inspiration for Slaking (which seems to share design traits with a gorilla) as an extinct species that fucking terrorized other lifeforms.

In Pokemon Mystery Dungeon humans are sleeper agents for Arceus/Xerneas when a time of dire need arises

Typing bestows the essence of the type to that pokemon; when a pokemon is attacked by a super-effective move, you are damaging the pokemon's body in addition to its essence, which is why it takes more damage. Likewise, weak attacks do not damage the pokemon as much because its resistance acts like a shield permeating its body.

This is also why pokemon can be healed in Pokemon Centers and with potions/berries; only a minimal amount of first aid is needed for the body. The rest of the pokemon's healing is achieved by restoring its essence.

so if you hurt the pokemons essence, it hurts the pokemon as well, yes?

that sounds an awful lot like the relationship between a stand and a stand user
