I pretty much go into Pokemon games with the mentality of "I'm about to go on an adventure where I'm fighting monsters. Which of these would help me best do that?" Choosing a starter is typically pretty easy from there.

Gen 2, for example, I feel like my first line defense being a bipedal crocodile is safer than a pear that shoots leaves.

Or a fire-breaking, dinosaurian lizard would be better for combat than a turtle that blows bubbles.

So that's the approach is usually take, and I leave stupid shit like "b-but muh barafags" out of it.

Not if you think about it in non-gameplay terms though. Then Incineroar seems like the toughest by far. In the end any starter is fine in terms of battling in-game.

Energy-based moves have always been considered stronger than physical ones in fiction, and it turns out Primarina is one of the strongest water type and the strongest starter with those. We can't know how powerful they are, but they are much scarier than punches/charges if you really think about it.

That's a fair point. What makes me say that about Incineroar is that he generally seems like more of a fierce combatant. Makes him the more obvious "power" choice, where I feel like he can go and beat shit up and make sure we don't die in wilderness.

The tiger is the strongest. It can easily kill both in a matter of seconds. And eat them afterwards. And shit them out, making them literally shit. And shit over their shit forms.
The owl is the wisest. It can fly. The other two can't even reach it. They can try attack, it'll have no affect. It can also use its wisdom to bombard the other two from sky.
The seal can swim. And go underwater. No matter how much the owl or the tiger might struggle, they can't even reach it. It WILL survive. It won't even take any damage in this fight.
