But the Alola Dugtrio start fighting, which puts the unit at a risk of splitting up. And then the Rocket Gang showed up and took the Alola Dugtrio with them!

Satoshi, a boy living in Masara Town, greeted the morning of his 10th birthday, the day he could become qualified to become a Pokémon Trainer. Satoshi's heart was filled with a desire for Pokémon he has never seen before and a world he has never seen before, but while he was meant to be given a Pokémon that would become his partner at the Okido Laboratories, he ended up severely oversleeping, and all that was left for him was a single Pikachu, a Pokémon that did not get attached to humans.
"Do you hate me? I like you!" Even though the two were at odds with one another, their friendship deepened little by little, and as they looked up at the legendary Pokémon Houou that flew through the sky on the day they set off, Satoshi and Pikachu swore an oath as they held one of its Rainbow Feathers:
"Let's go meet it together one day!"

And thus, Pikachu and Satoshi, who set off on his journey to become the world's greatest Pokémon Master, end up meeting the Trainers Makoto and Soji on their way before getting told a legend concerning Houou.
"Those who, guided by the Rainbow Feather, meet with Houou, shall become the Heroes of the Rainbow."
Satoshi and the others end up getting guided by Marshadow, a mysterious Pokémon that had been lurking in Satoshi's shadow without anyone realizing, and make their way to Mount Tensei, where Houou lives, but a strong opponent appears before them. Will the duo manage to reach Houou?! In order for them to fulfill the promise they swore on the day the departed, the two of them now begin an adventure that will last until they become "true partners"!

They're going through the new pokemon debuts very quickly this saga, and Alola only has less than 70 new pokemon when you factor out all the legendaries and Ultra Beasts. I really wonder if this gen will be shorter than usual, like only 2 years.

I think that SM is the best scripted series since OS, pretty fluid if you ask me, the problem for the people here is.
1st They prefer the design of Bw Ash upgraded, bigger eyes and a bishounen aspect than the new cute but inconsistent one.

Team Rocket is absolutely annoying and irritating. I honestly wish they'd been written out of the show at the end of BW.

I'll never understand why people like and enjoy them. The only reason I can even think of is because they're the only other recurring characters from OS. So, nostalgia.

At least before, they'd be an excuse for a somewhat decent, albeit formulaic, battle to occur but that haven't even been good for THAT lately since that hardly ever happens anymore. The beach ambush where they almost beat Ash still has me wanting to see them all have just a straight up, all out battle with each other with a conclusive ending for one instead of Bewear getting in the way. Heck, Ash having to fight Bewear, and getting wrecked cause SM Ash ain't ready, would be nice.

They really aren't at all. That's just people reading too much into things in simple shows and making them out to be more than what they are.

At the end of the day, they're just 3 (or 4 depending on the season) incompetent idiots who waste screen time with pointless chat, formulaic battles and unfunny jokes with an occasional good episode.

The show would honestly be so much better with them gone, but due to people's nostalgiaboners and Japan's just overall weird obsession with incompetent "comedy" bad guys, that's just never going to happen and they'll continue to further hinder the anime more than it's already hindering itself.

They haven't even done anything of worth in SM yet. They showed up, got 2 Pokemon, sat in a cave, almost beat Ash once but haven't had a single conclusive fight cause of Pedobear, built their base and...have done nothing with it.

Team Rocket was annoying in most of the other seasons too, particularly DP and much less so in BW, but at least they were trying to actually do something in those series instead of just sitting in a cave and not going anywhere. We haven't even seen the Meowth Balloon since episode 5.

Also, if the point of Team Rocket is to be the comic relief, how do you write them in a weird series where absolutely everyone has become comic relief? It makes them feel rather needless and obsolete...which explains their poor usage in SM.

What were the writers thinking with the huge cast in SM? It's Ash + 5 new friends (Lillie and the 4 trial leaders), plus TR, plus the teacher and sometimes Alolan Oak.

And since Ash is the main character he gets the most screentime as usual, so the rest of the characters are largely just there. The writers have shown they could barely juggle a group of 4 (like in AG and XY) without some characters getting shafted, yet SM has 6 main characters plus Team Rocket.

Honestly I feel like the anime is done, at least for us. DP and XY felt like a "last hurrah" for those of us watching since the OS and AG days, now the anime is just going to do semi-reboots for the next decade.

Nah, OS/AG/DP all directly flowed into each other properly, along with old characters returning, Ash using old pokemon, Brock sticking around, etc. We had things like the last episode of AG show Ash and Aipom hop on a boat to Sinnoh together, tying right into the beginning of DP.

It's a real shame they stopped doing this. Every saga now feels standalone like its own thing. OS, AG and DP all felt like one long continuing series.
