Let's not even talk about that. Decidueye was the only one that had a fanbase pre-release. Popplio fanbase exploded with popularity after Brionne was revealed, but Torracat was seen as a grim reminder that incineroar was coming. Being the minority that actually liked Incineroar, I too had to deal with literally everyone wishing Incineroar wasn't real, or at least not Fire/Fighting, at least on /vp/.

Considering the amount of art that "Poppmaid/Entermaid" received hours after the leaks and that it had threads and various nicknames instantly, yeah, a lot of people were REALLY hoping for it to be real. it even had figurines before the reveal. Only people not happy about it were the denialfags who already set their mind on Owltair/Ballio/The tiger thing being the real starters.

I'm actually not making stuff up and I was here since the very beginning. I've noticed that a lot of early art of Primarina (who was called Entermaid and other variations back then because we didn't know its actual name) came from one single artist. Exact same art style, exact... well, everything. Of course some other people did some other fan art, but this dude was THE biggest fan (and still is) to the point of drawing Primarina frenetically.

Sorry, I misinterpreted your post. But yeah, just searching "Entermaid/Poppmaid/Popplio3" will reveal that there were indeed lots of different artists for Primarina. I would know as I saved most of that art at the time. Most of the BEST pics came from that particular artist, though, yes.
Searching for "robin hoot" shows pretty much nothing which I'm guessing is innacurate since I used to see art for Decidueye too pre-release, but yeah.
