Editions lead to shitposting, and we've never needed them here. People end up fighting over who gets to make the next OP to force whatever image and "edition" they want.

That sounds like a valid complaint, but I don't recall that ever happening here, it seems more the two threads were a communication error, not somebody mad the OP wasn't something specific.

And wouldn't the OP always be slightly controversial anyways? I imagine not everybody agrees on which image to choose for it, but normally people don't make a huge deal out of that aside from a couple of posts at the start of the thread, so why would editions be any different?

The other thread doesn't have an edition, because it's made by someone who isn't shitposting by adding stuff to the OP, editions, or putting a borderline lewd pic as the OP, which just attracts all the wrong kinds of requests and you'll even see people as excuses that they can request such things since they appeared in an OP and nobody said anything.
