They should stop regional variants. Megas at least accomplished their goal: making weak Pokemon stronger. Regional forms basically create new Pokemon which can either be worse than the original form or make the original form completely redundant.

The only Alola forms that follow this tropical theme are the the Duggy line, Raichu, Exeggutor, and Marowak.

Golem line is muh magnetism, Vulpix and Sandshrew line adapted to the cold Mount Lanakila, Grimer line just ate some Alola garbage, and Raticate + Persian are muh nocturnal fatmon.

Shouldn't the sinnoh forms be pokemon already in the sinnoh dex that aren't from sinnoh? It would make more sense to see sinnohian snorlax, medicham, rapidash or steelix than a granbul.

Even SM ends with a league being established and gyms being the new Alola norm. It was a one time thing of GF branching out and trying something different. Even a potential SM2 would go back to the gym format.

No, why would they? The Alola dex is mostly old Pokemon and only a few have Alola forms.
