I hate how XY and Movie 08 has utterly ruined Lucario with their horribly shilling. Everyone here hates Lucario with a passion because GameFreak couldn't stop throwing it in our faces. I loved Lucario before they started shilling, and it meant a lot to me as a child. It pains me that I'm now forced to pretend that I don't like it, all because if I ever say that I do, a horde of autistic shitposters is gonna completely ruin the entire thread by calling out how much they hate Lucario and how much they hate everyone who doesn't. I like rating/ranking threads etc. as a means of people being able to share their different tastes and opinions but I absolutely detest the whole rating aspect of them.
I simply enjoy being able to share, see and discuss everybody's different views - listening to why they feel however they may about different things - but I feel that going out of your way to rate each other just detracts from that. Things such as "8/10 I like ___" and "2/10 shit taste kys" mean nothing to me and it doesn't really open much room for any form of conversation, just a number with the occasional small comment.

The whole "if you won't rate then get out" attitude some people have is also fairly silly. Stops some new people from joining and just turns it into a hugbox of the same few users constantly posting to each other. I understand that there's not much else you can do but it would just feel a lot more welcoming to participate in and exchange without being forced to rate each other.
I like talking about Pokemon, not reading numbers.

I have low standards. I have simple likes and dislikes. For that reason, I have never cared much. People complain about how Pokemon is progressively getting worse, but I never cared. Every Generation brought with it more Pokemon, more moves, more gimmicks, better graphics and more lore. I was happy with just that. I always thought Pokemon just kept getting better, that the only step it took back was the speed in DP.

People complain about how the games are getting linear. I did everything in the same linear order, the one GF intended, every time, from the beginning.
People complain lack of postgame facilities. I never cared about those. They're just more battles. The only ones I liked were the ones that gave you Rental Pokemon. It was fun using new Pokemon. The rest were just gimmicks I couldn't care less about.
People used to complain about too many Legendaries. I never saw any problem with that. I never cared. They were just stronger Pokemon.
People complain about lack of cross-gen evolution. I don't care. Megas and regional forms are better.
People complain about lack of difficulty. I never cared. I think before SM, the only battles I ever found "difficult", as in I lost once, were my first League in 2003 and Ghetsis in BW.
People complain about "Digimon" designs. I never cared. They still looked good.
People complain about shilling. I don't care. I'm still playing the same game, the same way I used to.
People complain about furfag pandering. I never cared. Gardevoir and Tsareena, while human-like, still look pretty. That enough.
People complain about cutscenes. I don't care. They were fun. Made the games better anime than most anime these days.
People complain about Zoroark and Lucario for being edgy. I never cared about what was "edgy" and what wasn't.
People complain about Ash. I'm one of those people.
People complain about cancer meta. It's the same it's always been to me.

I don't know why I'm here. It's almost painful seeing people complain.

I hate how they keep using the same Pokemon in every dex lately. I mean Flygon and Probopass have been in every dex since BW2, same with Psyduck, Magnemite, Zubat, Eevee, Wingull, and the like, and Magikarp and the original four trade evolutions are in every non-Unova dex. Mix it up a bit you fucks. We haven't seen Stantler in a main dex for approaching a decade, a good chunk of the Unova mons still haven't been native to a dex since BW2, and when they finally put Porygon back in a dex it was postgame.

I didn't mind XY and ORAS as much everyone else

I liked the slower pace of Platinum and the first two gyms of X/Y, it made the world/adventure feel bigger/grander to me, instead of having a gym/town every 5 steps.

Gen 3 was gross to look at, and turned me off of Pokemon games as a kid.

Gen 5 felt like a continuation of the things I disliked from Gen 3 for some reason. I also hated the boring routes between the cities. 5-2 was a bit better.

I miss the watercolor art style from earlier games, but the new in-game models mostly look great too, so I can deal with the change.

i fucking hate TPCi's decision making when it comes to merchandise, particularly plushes. Right now i can buy a Pikachu dressed like a Mega Diancie, but i cant buy a Mega Diancie. I can get Pikachu dressed like Team Plasma, but i cant get a Volcarona that wasnt from a ufo catcher game. I can get a fucking Gulpin keychain, but theres no Lanturn plush out there that is not made by someone on etsy. pisses me off.

As far as the logic behind it goes, Lanturn isn't a very popular Pokemon and Volcarona is from the most commonly criticized gen so I guess they didn't want to make it a wide seller. Gulpin experienced a slight bump in memetic popularity in Japan and is a simple shape for a keychain.
What I'm more pissed about is the lack of Mimikyu plushies. They advertise the plushies of it everywhere but then take forever to restock it.

Gen 1's designs are too basic to have much of an opinion on. They also have the only starters i dont want on my team

Battle facilities suck, i hate having to ditch my team for some heavily inbred mutants, only to eventually run into that team that hard counters it.

I fucking HATE the Pokemon Ride music and outfit. I've never liked the bike music in general either, due to it completely replacing the area's music in most cases.

There is zero reason for the Game Corner to be gone. It's not gambling if you're guaranteed a payout, and there's plenty of minigames you could add in.

For a series that emphasizes on doing things with your pokemon, you really can't do much with them in most of the games. In SM it's just fights and basic stuff in Refresh. Most of the time it just feels like i'm using some tool to win in the Tree.

I'm sick of the Items slot having like 500 fucking items in it. What's wrong with having something like a Z Crystal Case or Megastone Case?

I was heavily disappointed in SM, and i feel as though i might just drop the series if the next game isn't an improvement, but i just don't see it happening.

I make numerous complaints about the series as a whole not because I hate the games, but because I like them and want to see them get better.

I'm tired of seeing the same few pokemon in every region. Do I REALLY need to see Zubat/Rattata/Geodude/Magikarp/fucking WINGULL in every region? Not to mention how they get real carried away with their placement.

I'm kind of getting sick of turn-based stuff but I don't want to fall for the open world meme either. I wish that Pokémon could become some kind of modern non-turn based RPG. The Kanto starters are all fucking hideous and don't deserve half of the attention they get. Like, what the fuck is even the point of including them into X/Y besides their Mega Evolutions? Every time I replay X/Y, the first thing I do with them is Wonder Trade them. I get why they're so popular, but I hate them more for their designs than anything else.

Platinum is my favourite Pokémon game. I see nothing but people bashing it no matter where I go. But even still, I love replaying it every time regardless.

I feel like the franchise is getting worse with each new game and I don't think it's going to be saved because of what mobile games have done to the marketplace, making things easier and more geared to money-grubbing. I feel like it's only a matter of time before Pokemon turns into a pay-to-play phone app (since a lot of the spinoffs basically are this anymore.)

I want Gen 8 to actually matter again, but I don't think Game Freak wants to make a game anyone is interested in playing anymore when they can chase the mobile market and try to emulate Yo-kai Watch. Playing SM felt like playing a fucking VN for all the cutscenes and inability to actually progress on my own.

I hate the Switch and feel like it's literally just a Nintendo-branded phone that's going to suck to try and use whether you travel or you play at home, and I worry that it's going to wind up killing Nintendo and Pokemon altogether.

I don't know who's making the decisions on mainline Pokemon games anymore, but they're fucking up.

There isn't a reason to do remakes in the first place and I honestly hope ORAS killed game freak's spirit in making them. If you're going back to a region do something completely different with it so it's justified and not just nostalgic pandering. There's a million ways they could fuck up gen 4, this is the lore generation and Ohmori is in control. I honestly rather them skip it considering SM are pretty slow games and that was DP's main problem. had we not had the region done to death by now, the 20th Anniversary would have been a good time for Kanto remakes. That is, if we didn't already have the crazy remake culture in place, it would have been something to legitimately get excited for, especially around the release of Go. Given how slow Gen 6/7's engine is in general, I feel like going back to Sinnoh is going to feel exceptionally... authentic. Guh.

I'm probably going to get flak for this, but I think that if Pokemon were released to the public domain (under a similar license like the Crypton Vocaloid's likenesses) and fans were actually allowed to create their own works with it and collaborate without having to do it in the internet equivalent of a backalley, we'd finally get the games we've always wanted to play.

Non-turn-based fans get their game, people wanting an MMO would probably crowdfund their shit -- if nothing else at least we'd have a shot at making things better than they are now. Maybe Game Freak could stop being god-awful at customer relations and adopt the best projects as official and work together to make a better project than either of them could have done on their own.

Sure we'd wind up with a bunch of shit, a ton of cringe, and even more just bizarre fetish art -- but the quality works would be worth the embarrassment it in my opinion.

I really miss the Pokeathlon, Voltorb Flip, and the Pokewalker. The minigames in HGSS kept me playing for a long fucking time. I wish GF would actually keep the innovations made in prior titles instead of starting from a blank set of new gimmicks every generation.

The entire first island of SM made me put down the game the first time I played through it and I ended up not touching it for two days (despite all my prior hype). It just drained the life out of me. I was having a literal 'why am I still playing these games' moment. The fact that there's no mode or option to indicate you're a veteran of the series from the start is a goddamn travesty.

I couldn't even finish ORAS despite playing through XY at least four times. Hoenn is such a bland, terrible region and the game is so easy, even without the EXP share.

DPPT are good games... if you're playing on an emulator running at 2.5x speed.

Even if a Pokemon MMO was released I'm not sure I'd play it. I did my time in WoW for eight or nine years and I'm not ready to go back on the hamster wheel.

I have all the artistic, musical, and coding acumen of the average garden snail. There's not much I can do to help anyone's fan project, much as I really wish I could. But I relate to you anon, I wish that we could somehow better things for the franchise. I love pokemon, I literally grew up with this franchise, and it kills me to see it moving away from all the things that made it good. Game Freak are how they are, they're never going to get it.

The most jaded of us, we're in mourning for the loss of a great part of our lives, it seems like. We're losing something we care about and we're powerless to stop it, and it's hard to watch something tear itself apart when it doesn't have to be like this.

There's resources out there for learning stuff in regards to ROM hacking/Essentials. These days if you google and try hard enough there's lots of things you can learn in your free time, though I can't speak for how much of that you have. I know even though we're all a bunch of faggots here that if a bunch of faggots coherently got a point across or at least helped form alternatives then things would be better.

Why doesn't GF care? 800+ designs yet only 10 get any attention, numerous problems that'll never get addressed, and just general half assed stuff all around.

I can accept the games being easy, i dont expect them to be absurdly hard. I can accept the story being the same, I can even accept that some of the pokemon I like will never be good in battle. But why can't they just care about the only thing keeping them alive? It feels like they look for shortcuts everywhere, while giving the worst excuses ever to excuse themselves. No customization in ORAS? "Fashion is important in Kalos." No Game Corner? "Gambling isn't allowed in Europe" even though you could just make a normal arcade with minigames that aren't slots.

Not even the legends, nobody actually cares about the mozart birds. Pikachu and Charizard, and to a lesser extent Eevee. All the other common gen 1 pokemon are just in most of the games because they're "filler" pokemon for another region. Can I just say how much I hate gen 6? Like good god did it suck. I like every pokemon game except gen 6. You think Because the jump to 3d they'd go for quality over quantity, but it did NEITHER. I hate most of the gen 6 dex, but I can ignore the new guys. Why the hell are the 3d models to BORING, I'd honestly rather have the stadium animations imported then this shit, everything is so lifeless. Tell me why primape is STANDING STILL?? And every zone is so forgettable. I can't name any city besides snowbelle. Took me months to finish the game my first time because I just did not care.

Also mini rant: I don't like how eevee is everywhere in the new pokemon games. I thought you were only supposed to get one per run because eevee adapts to your team. But you know, fuck it. Everyone loves eevee right? Let's put it everywhere.

Fuck it, I'm going full autsim, it's 8 AM and I haven't slept. I get really chatty when I'm tired so this thread is the perfect storm.

Being a Grassfag fucking sucks, holy shit. I like Grass pokemon because I find the mix of animal and plant traits to be very charming and I also like cutemons like Bounsweet and Chikorita. They're adorable! But holy fucking shit, it's so hard to use them! I run a Tsareena on my battle spot team and she maybe gets 1 turn of usage before having to U Turn out because everything resists Grass or kills Grass with a coverage move. At this point, I'm just using Trop Kick for the Attack debuff, I could be running Charm on my Tsareena and get more out of it than her signature move! Fuck!
By that very same thread, I hate fire types! Well, I don't hate them, I really only dislike Charizard, but I hate that Fire Pokemon get all the promotion (again, Charizard) and Grass starters get nothing. Chikorita is my FAVORITE and it gets shat on both on and off /vp/, while everyone sings the praises of Cyndaquil. I remember looking up glitches/guides on Gold version when I was younger and one of the "guides" went like 'If you want to win, don't pick Chikorita.' It's a dumb thing to be mad about, but dammit! I love the cute little onion dino but I feel so alone in my love for both it and grass types in general.

On a side note, I adore Silvally but it sucks! Why do all the things I like have to suck ass competitively! I feel like I have to put in 4x as much effort to run Pokemon I like and still lose. I won't deny that I'm awful at Pokemon, but I wish the Pokemon I liked were good enough to carry me like the people who love Charizard. Mega Charizard is so fucking strong! I wish I had a Mega Meganium that could auto set weather and fire off Solarbeams while also having another mega that makes it the strongest phys sweeper in the game! Fuck Charizard! I want Ivysaur back in Smash too! Fuck!!!!

After playing the leaked rom, I finished the game(UBs Quest and 50 wins in Battle Tree) and I really felt underwhelmed. I deleted it, so if I ever wanted to play it again I would have to buy it, however I never felt the desire to do so.
For the first time I didn't buy a main series game, I tought I would regret it, but I never did. I still love Pokemon( Blue was my first videogame), I can play the older games, the spinoffs and Showdown just fine, but I can't no longer give a shit about the main series, since I don't really like where the franchise is going( I started feeling this way with Gen 6) and how little effort GF put into it.

That might've been the case a few years ago, sure, but I think the mobile game industry bubble has begun its burst. If anything, the success of SM proves that people are still very interested in a full game experience, and for GF and Nintendo to turn their backs on that audience would be disastrous. Pokemon GO is cool and all, but it's only as profitable as its events are viable. And if its reviews are any indication, people would rather pay for the 3DS games than get this free game with bare-bones elements and microtransactions.

I feel like SM were better than XY but that neither of them have any replay value. I feel like Gen 6 as a whole, ORAS included, were so bad that they broke the entire fanbase's faith in Game Freak. I find myself putting more time into old games and fan games than I do anything TPCi has put out in years.

I've been replaying the games lately, and I liked Gen 5, but Gen 4 was the last one that felt like a really classic Pokemon game to me. Slow-ass engine aside (and it made me hate the region for years, thank god for Platinum,) it was the last one where we could name our Rival, the last one with so many little things that just made it feel... like a Pokemon game, I guess. Gen 5 was different, and it worked in its own way. I could accept it -- but things have only changed more and more from there, and the new games just don't feel the same. Maybe it's just nostalgia talking, but I feel like the essence of what makes a Pokemon game a Pokemon game has been lost along the way, and that's why so many fangames seem to work even when they're made by one dude in his basement or whatever.

I've been thinking about the same thing lately, and how true it really is. Gen 5 really is good in its own way and B2W2 is one of my favourite games of the series, but all of the Gen 4 games feel like they're the last traditional Pokémon games of the series. While I usually stop playing the newer games after finishing the main storyline, I always love replaying Gen 1 through 4 over and over. It might be my nostalgia talking too, but I just always feel empty whenever I finish newer games. It doesn't help how easy they got either.

I loved a lot about SM, but it had so many problems that it was a hard bitch to love.

I adored the region -- but we never really got off the rails to actually explore it. I loved the Pokemon, and thankfully this gen was a little better than Gen 6 was as long as you dumped the Exp Share, but they were BURIED under the old Pokemon and some had absolutely insane catch rates. I didn't mind the story, but the cutscenes were so frequent, and short, and badly-handled that it just got in the way... it added great things like the Pelago, finally fucking killed HMs, but at the end of the day it still didn't really fix the series' problems, and was a step back in a lot of ways even in spite of being better than Gen 6. God damn it, I wanted this one to be good.

I actually missed the online features from Gen 6, they were a step up from SM's by far. I missed the old version of Amie -- I liked cleaning and tending to our Pokemon, but it shouldn't have come at the expense of being able to play with them, too. And Super Training being gone was complete horseshit.

I know why Triple and Rotation battles were gone, but it still sucks -- and there was no actual good reason to remove Inverse battles. I know Game Freak can't fucking program but they have got to work out something with their engine's issues. I hope they come back in the next game, but Game Freak doesn't like to keep features that people actually like... god damn I hate this company so fucking much.

Also I fucking hate that Pikachu has an anime cry and nothing else does. It's the most blatant pandering of anything in the history of the franchise and it's a small thing but it drives me fucking insane.

I can only hope things will be better on the Switch but I have no faith anymore.

I haven't fully enjoyed the games since gen 5 ended. That was the last time it truly felt like they cared about their older fans. ORAS really did it for me, they blatantly didn't care and did the least amount of effort needed. There's no reason why ORAS shouldn't of had a Battle Frontier, Sinnoh had a Battle Frontier, FUCKING JOHTO had a Battle Frontier. Then SM comes around, holds your hand throughout, and has a "go here you dumb fuck" icon for their Rotom dex map. If it weren't for the increased difficulty I would of considered it an even bigger downgrade without only the visuals and presentation improved nothing else.

I can admit that I personally enjoyed it so much that I kind of ignored a lot of those, but I do remember a few too many "Hey c'mere" prompts.

I am one of the only people that prefers plaza to PSS (bootleg JA is better than no JA for me), but it is incredibly inconvenient for people who did enjoy always being connected and seeing trade req's pop up while they roved around.

I never really played triples or inverse battles (weren't they only in one house?) but Rotations were kind of fun. Why did they remove them? The only features I genuinely miss are Secret Bases, Soaring, and the Shiny Pokemon facility rewards in BW2, which made me actually feel like I got something worthwhile instead of a medal or BP.

Pikachu is the mascot and that was purely for advertising during XY (e.g. "wow, pikachu says pikachu now" during ads). I don't see why they'd remove it after gen 6, it isn't really any sort of feature.

Overall the most important things for me were the new Pokemon (Some of the best designs in the whole franchise and felt a hell of a lot more memorable than XY's), and the admittedly petty feature of being able to see them as the non-chibi models all the time, so that customization wasn't a waste anymore. I'm guessing that your desires for a new game are echoed by most of /vp/, so I wish you the best of luck anon.

I've been with this series since I got Silver in 2001. I think every Generation comes with its ups and downs, but overall, Pokemon has only just gotten better. Every other Generation improved more than it hurt. The only Generation that MIGHT be an exception would Generation VI, but even than, I think it brought too many good things to the table that I don't dislike it at all. It brought a lot more great things to the table, like 3D, Customization, Megas, Fairy, Amie. I find any game I play without those to be boring now.

I remember being really impressed back when BW finally had semi-3D environment and buildings you had doors on sides, rather than just on the front. I was really impressed with that and excited about how Pokemon was moving into 3D. Now, as ugly as I found those chibi models to be, I don't care about the graphics in non-3D Pokemon games. It's not that I find them ugly, I quite liked the sprites in Pokemon, I just think they aren't as visually appealing as 3D is in Pokemon, so I care a lot less about them.

This is the sort of person I am. I get impressed by little things. I'm probably the type of person killing Pokemon in /vp/'s eyes.
