The Misdreavus line draws basis from two separate supernatural creatures. One is the banshee, which despite popular portrayal, is a fairy and not the spirit of a dead person. The other is the nukekubi, and it appears that youkai is functionally appropriate for fairy.

Mismagius *does* have a witch motif, but that's in addition to the above, and so just provides a little bit more reason for the typing.
