In Japanese, Ampharos is called Denryu which I think means like electric current or something. Ryu is the word for dragon so they thought it would be funny to make it and electric dragon type

Meteor Mash is called 'Comet Punch' in Japan. That's why it's boosted by Iron Fist, and why Minior who has no hands can't learn it.
They really fucked up some of the names in translation. Low Kick was supposed to be a Kick Down, while Low Sweep was supposed to be Low Kick but couldn't because that name already existed.
Beedrill should've been a wasp, not a bee. And Vespiquen should've been a bee, not a wasp.
I hope they fix this someday.

Bulbapedia's shitty translations again.

"けたぐり" (Kataguri) is a term that doesn't really have a direct translation. It's a sumo move where they either use the back of their foot to pull the opponent's leg out from under them, or just kick their shins to get the same effect. "Kick Down" sounds like someone making up a translation because they didn't recognize the original word.
