The 'point' was that there was an item over there if I remember right, and to serve as a lighthouse. Obviously that's a pretty dinky lighthouse, so ORAS fixed that and the one in Slateport.

this. there's a lighthouse in slateport, so there's gotta be one here. it also helps the beach take shape with several entrances which honestly is the best part about hoenn.

using the environment and building around it seems to be a theme with a lot of major locations like sootopolis/pacifidlog/fortree etc.
