Popplio is the cute, goofy, innocent starter, so it matches up with the laid back childhood friend. Grass types are usually used as the "default" for MCs, and Litten going to the Masked Royal makes sense.

Combination of people liking Decidueye as their starter, people thinking Kukui should have Incineroar because it's a wrestler theme, and people disliking Primarina and wanting it with Hau, who is considered a huge loser.
