The problem I have with Serena is that she does nothing but worry whenever there's any sort of conflict. She's passive. Unlike May and Dawn, who would discuss counter-tactics for Ash's opponent's tactics in a spectator match, or Dawn and Iris who would enthusiastically cheer Ash on, all Serena does is sit there and worry. It's formulaic: Sawyer or Clemont explains the opponent's tactic (frequently after Bonnie asks what Ash or his opponent is doing), and then Serena having heard the explanation goes "How can Ash possibly deal with that?" It was formulaic in Hoenn and Sinnoh, too, but the difference was that the discussion between Dawn/May & Max and Brock would then turn to counter-tactics.

I'm starting to believe that Lillie is actually going to be the main pokegirl who travels with Ash later on in SM.

We're almost half a year into SM and with the way the series has gone so far we've learned one important thing about the cast, which is that they all have a life and family outside of the Pokemon School. Lana takes care of her sisters, Mallow works at her families cafe, Kaki works on his farm and does deliveries throughout the Alolan Islands.

Lillie though, she doesn't do anything afterwards as far as we can tell besides return home with Shiron.

If we do get a "summer vacation" arc like I'm expecting, it's quite likely that Ash is going to use that time to start travelling the rest of Alola to explore, fight captains, do trials, and defeat Kahunas.

This gives Lillie an opportunity to do something with her time, which could lead us to a path closer to the games which has Ash, Lillie, and Kukui travelling through the Islands together for the most part.

This allows us to have excitement and hype for when the cast we've met over the last 20 episodes returns every so often for an episode or two leading to their trials. It also would lead to Gladions introduction, Aether and Skull development, but more importantly a chance at Lillie working on her fear of Pokemon.

The Pokemon School is a safespace for her, she's going to need a dose of the outside world before she can fix her fear.

Everyone one in the cast has had their family shown, hell, even Delia is coming to see Ash from Kanto for the visitation day. I'm 110% certain that that episode, while focusing on Ash and Delia, is going to have quite a bit of focus on Lillie and the lack of her family appearing.

Or, if they want to shake things up have Lusamine appear and be extremely cold to Lillie.

That episode is probably going to set things up for Lillie to travel around with Ash. I wouldn't be surprised if episode 25/26 is the end of the first part of the Pokemon School Arc, which sends us to the Akala/Trials Arc for another 25-30 episodes, which will then set up an Aether/UB tease/Ula Ula arc with Pokemon School sprinkled in every now and then.

She isn't the only writer in the show, and her episodes are a lot of fun.

Omode is primarily writing Lillie focused episode it appears, handling her character on her own similar to how Serena was basically given to her to develop.

Omode did good work with Serena and is very good at developing characters. It wasn't until about midway through XY that Serena was handed off to her. The difference with Lillie is that it appears she has been given Lillie's character from the very beginning to work with.

Wasn't it Omode who decided that Shiron needed a nickname to seperate it from the Kanto Vulpix?

Something that SM has completely underutilized this far into the series is the Pokemon school itself.

We've seen the classroom, Oaks office, and the courtyard in passing.

But we've never gotten a closer look at all the activities and classes that the school does.
