Torterra is one of my favorite starters, much better than all the grass starters that came after it.
Love its design, love its move set, typing, stats.
Yeah it gets demolished vs. anything RU, but its a fucking tortoise with a mini-continent on its shell.

In terms of aesthetics, these are the absolute worst. In terms of gameplay, pick any random Pokemon from Johto and you've got a 90% chance of it being worse than Torterra.

I don't think i'd use it for battle much but it seems like a convenient Pokemon to have, specially if you are in the wild. Perfect spot to sit and relax, has shade and he can apparently find water sources easily.

This was the first time I felt like you could not win with final evolutions. Usually I could pick at least one that i thought was okay.

I'm all for every pokemon having fans but Torterra's fanbase is the most surprising to me. Some pokemon I come around to understanding the appeal even if it's not to my liking. Not only was I surprised by people liking Torterra, I was surprised by how much they liked it. Maybe one day I'll get it but right now that's one ugly fucking pokemon and I can't think of an uglier starter.

every starter had always had a niche they can call their own, some are fantastic like infernape, some are one trick ponies like serperior.
Samurott is the only exception, its good for nothing and has 0 gimmicks, its just a bland pokemon whose only appeal may just be the cutie bait oshawott is, samurott is basically the vanilla flavor of starters
