Yeah, I doubt it ever got very high in level. I pretty much only used Feraligatr and Ampharos. I had Scyther because I caught it in the bug catching contest, and I though Sudowoodo and red Gyarados were legendaries or something.

Yeah tangela was always a fave, I thought the design was wacky, I could make a full team of just the pokemon I didn't know existed in johto first time round, that's what I like about it.

Same three. Although its a bit difficult to do so considering how pokes i want such as Skarmory and Swinub are late-game so i have to make due with others. Im also playing on the Emu version so i can get trade evolutions and such. Normally i go with Feraligatr, *some normal and/or ground type*, Gyarados, Fearow, Snorlax and Gengar but now i wanna go for a Johto team probably something like Feraligatr, Skarmory, Piloswine, Ariados, Steelix and maybe Misdreavus if not anything else. Wish me luck.

I too would play on the original gold i own but i havent placed the battery properly and it tends to move and delete the save file. Now i play on bgb and if i want a more original experience, i just transfer my save into my R4 and play on my DS Lite.

Typhlosion is better in Crystal before the physical/special split when you could slap thunderpunch on it. Feraligatr is better in HG/SS.

I dont take feraligatr because Quagsire exists, and Meganium doesn't have much to work with. If you could get a Firestone easily in Gold i'd just grab a Ninetales or something
