Starter - Can be anybody really, preferably Blastoise in Red and Venusaur in Blue.
Then pick some of these: Jolteon, Vaporeon, Nidoking, Ninetales, Arcanine, Alakazam, Pidgeot, Persian, Raichu and Snorlax.

I love all 3 Kanto starters, but I usually pick Charizard or Venusaur.

Then It´s usually a combination of Nidoking, Hitmonlee/Primeape, Gyarados/Poliwrath, Snorlax, and Alakazam or Gengar, if possible.

Magmar was useless. By the time you're late enough in the game to catch him you pretty much don't need fire for the rest of the game. The only time he was ever useful during the elite four was for killing Loreleis jinx, the rest of her team is water type. Everything else kills him.
