I like ho oh mostly because gold was my game but it's also cool with the tie-in with the first episode

It could look cool in very specific situations like pic related from Electric Tale of Pikachu, but I do prefer Ho-Oh, for the myth, the power and the glorious shiny.

It keeps bugging me how they don't have any significant lore attached to them, though. Lugia is the Guardian of the seas, how does it fit in with Kyogre and Manaphy?

Ho-Oh has the power to revive the dead and grant them new life as greater beings, which clashes with Xerneas and Yveltal. Not to mention all the rainbow allusions that are happening in the recent games.

Kind of makes it look more like it got plucked recently. If it actually looked like that manga version then yeah fine, but it doesn't. The wings and head look much different. In the EToP pic there, it has tapered ends, a stiffer look, and the artist has drawn them more to look like huge flat wings, while in official art it uses them like giant hands, bending the fingers and using them as floppy arms. When it flaps the wings, it looks like awkward, much like a bird with human hands instead of wings would end up looking like in flight.

People liken birds with that kind of body structure to chickens quite often as it's a common bird they associate with the body type. Though come to mention it, it was actually "turkey" that I see Ho-Oh compared to, not chicken. Sorry.
