We don't know Olivia's actual race. Looking at her design, It's pretty understandable that people see her as black. Just because Alola is based off Hawaii doesn't mean that she's is one. Most people call Iris brown even though Unova is based off NYC and the best guess for her should be African American

It's still pretty damn stupid to say 'black' only refers to Africans as if 'white' only refers to Germans... People are also referred to as white or black based on how close their skin color corresponds. Not sure where you got that it was strictly a race thing.

The Polynesians in the movie Moana are as brown as Indians even though most Polynesians are pretty light skinned. Why? Because this is fucking 2D. If Asians look like whites in anime then so be it. It's a fictional depiction of certain people. Your idea of race is completely irrelevant.

Of course, it's not as if me being willing to debate that's she could be black stems from you claiming she couldn't be, or anything. I could easily find a black (and female) person that looks like Olivia via Google but you'd be hard-pressed to find someone Polynesian that dark skinned. They just look fucking different. The only things we know about Olivia is that she's dark skinned, lives in a region that's based on Hawaii and her outfit looks pretty traditional. Marlon is as dark as her but if you look closely you can tell he's tanned.
