If Skrelp evolved at level 12, how would you feel about it? Even if Dragalge was exactly the same, it would FEEL weaker because it evolves at level fucking 12. Raising the level is done to make them seem more strong/intimidating.

Larvesta should evolve into a fire cocoon around level 29-31, and then from there to volcarona at the level it currently happens, 59

Noibat should evolve into Noivern at 38 or so. Is not even that strong that it has to wait until 48, being a hindrance to a team all the way through

I think this is absolutely stupid even if it were true, and even assuming this is the actual reason, I would see dragalge just as tough if it evolved at level 36 rather than 48.

Fair point, but even so, you can fish for Level 35 Dragalge with a super rod.

When the game ends up throwing "impossible" underleveled Pokémon at you that aren't actually overpowered, it feels as though something went wrong

Formantis into lurantis and ralts to kirlia to gardevoir. Formantis is dead weight, so you may aswell get the superior bounsweet because steenee bridges the gap and tsareena>lurantis. Ralts is unusable period without egg moves or tms, kirlia usable for maybe 5 levels before it becomes useless again.

Don't get me started on magnezone and vikavolt.

Ralts and Abra share the same "Party passenger" role, where you drag them along with the EXP share until they evolve... Except Kadabra can carry in a party during the single player game, while Kirlia is very VERY middle-evo, and needs that third stage, male or female.

This is actually true. It's why psuedos generally evolve around 50. God only knows why Rufflet and Vullaby evolve so late though.

At least Vikavolt gets some usage. Crabrawler evolves right before the E4...and it's weak to almost every member.

Because Gen V has the weird quirk of the pokemon the game are (to some degree) designed around the region.

Making base pokemon you get later (Vullaby, Rufflet, Pawniard, Mienfoo and others), evolve at obscene levels (when in-game you catch them a few levels short of where they evolve)
