It was Tauros/Persian/Snorlax/Chansey and a handful of non-normal types (mostly psychic). Tauros is far more centralizing on showdown's simulators than he actually was back in the day, because the classic simulators ran with Stadium's bugfixes. Tauros isn't quite as powerful with the Hyper Beam glitch fixed.

Before the megas charizard was slightly better for 2 gens and then SR happend. Gen 5 gave him a wortless ability and gave Venu a pretty good one. That being said, he was pretty good on NU, apperently.

No, it was OKAY. It had Slash, and decent speed for gen 1 critical hits. It was weaker than even Nidoqueen and Nidoking, who had more versatility.

The best non Mewtwo/Mew mons in gen 1 are Alakazam and Gengar.
