Shiny Parents have no impact on hatching shinies. Also Masuda only works if both the parents are from different countries, so if you throw two japanese pokemon together it wont work. Two that are foreign to you but from different countries are fine.

Just completed my first ride in Gen 7 with this girl. I named her Jawsalyn. She's going to be a beautiful Mega.

Before her, I've had the most unintentional shiny "luck" ever. Stumbled on a shiny grimmer and two shiny cottonee, then hatched a shiny growlithe and blitzle. And those were before I got the shiny charm!

When I hunt, I like to Masuda so I can read and not risk screwing up an encounter.

As for favorite pseudo, does Goodra count? I love the pastel Easter colors.

Dunno what I'll go for next.

I would go with Adamant, like I just did. If I wanted Sp.Def investment that badly, I'd go with using a Assault Vest (that way you're good on both defense and sp.def), and you'd have that little boost to your already good Attack. But I have yet to try that out myself.

Rasing my Mismagius to level 100 was taking too long so I gave it all attacking moves to speed up the process. Once that was done and I used my gold bottle cap I come to realize that I can't relearn mean look because that's locked to Misdreavus. Well from what I picked up I believe you want to obtain an Intimidate Shinx in an Apricorn ball. All you need to do is have a female Shinx in whatever ball with its Ha and a male in the desired ball and when they breed the male has a chance of passing the ball and the female has a 80% chance to pass its Ha so it shouldn't be so complicated.

Hey guys, the guy who's dual hunting for the Johto starters here. No luck after a week of hunting. Figured that would happen after how quick I got my awesome Totodile.

I also managed to get a really good French Ditto in my copy of Moon. It's shiny and has perfect HP, Special Attack and Speed and the best part? 0 Attack.

So I'm using it to breed a shiny Porygon right now. Not really keeping track because I delete some as I go along, but I've filled up about 3 boxes now. I don't care if the stats aren't perfect (thanks to Bottlecaps) as long as it has 0 Attack. That would be pretty sweet.

I've sort of been in a sort of lizard hell for a while
I found 2 shiny male Salandits before finding a single female one (regular encounters and SOS)
Before that, I spent ~2 years and at least 100 boxes trying to get a shiny Charmander and never got it

Caught this last night while hunting for Razor Fangs. Its sad that i was able to snag a shiny but not one damn Razor Fang baka

well, I've had a wild ride.

since I last posted (barboach, I believe?) I have gotten:

Whismur (hunted for it, since it's the only shiny left that got away (which is to say, I eventually got all the others again))

Koffing (while looking for a slugma on firey path (not even a shiny slugma. just slugma))

Wurmple (same as above but with shroomish in petalburg woods)

and a random encounter Farfetch'd, which I stupidly lost because I forgot to save like a god-damned amateur...

Thanks man. I mostly hunt because, ironically, it's a stress reliever. It does take a while to get a shiny, but it's the result of actually putting in work and getting it to fill up another entry - that's the best part. Shiny hunting in the earlier gens are more rewarding, in my opinion, but a shiny is a shiny nonetheless.

Chain fishing is pretty easy. I've managed to get everything possible via that method in about 2 months (restarted Y and fished w/o a Charm). It's more about hearing the sound of something on your rod than actually seeing the [!]. Radar is just asinine imo compared to all the methods, including REs.

To be fair, I have taken break in-between hunts, and things like work and home interfere (I use to hunt at work), so it's been 3.5 years since I've started this officially. I think it's good to take breaks and do other things so you won't feel burnt out or forced to hunt, but it's the drive of the hunt that gets you motivated.

I've done SRs for Lugia, but there aren't many legendaries who are available and whose shiny I like. (also, took me 1300+ SRs for lugia, and one of my friends got it in 2.)

and yes, they are. it's just a matter of getting round to it. I'm more working on a full form living dex at the moment (with all the alternate forms, gender differences, etc) so most of my shinies at the moment are accidental.

as for the cutiefly, I find that in an SoS battle, between the camera angles and the outlines, it can be hard to make out the exact colour, since there's not a lot you can see (especially with how zoomed out things get in SoS battles. I wish we got manual camera controls), hence my plan to MM it. I can make it out fine in the hatch screen and all, just not always in a battle.

I find cave DexNav to be annoying, so I've resorted to doing REs in the Sevault Canyons in FireRed to re-obtain my shiny Unown A I lost with my game over a decade ago. I would ask if you're gonna do the same with the Vivillon forms but that might require a lot of factors.

Anyone interested in trading shinies? Recently bred a shiny Gible with Outrage and Iron Head as egg moves (also taught it earthquake and rock slide). It's Jolly, in a moon ball, has Sand Veil, and has four perfect IVs (attack, defense, speed, special attack).

I have no use for it since it doesn't have Rough Skin, and I'm not willing to level it to 100 for hyper training, so I'm willing to trade.

So... For this so-called Masuda Method...

I'm in the US and thus play on English carts. Can I simply restart one of my games, set the language to Japanese or French (or anything that's not English), then catch some 'mons and trade them over to my regular English cart and go to town breeding with the increased likelihood of hatching a shiny? Is it really that easy?

I thought it was the region of the cart, not the language in which you play the game that determined the tag associated with the Pokemon obtained in it. I have gotten Pokemon via trading that have Japanese names, yet do NOT have the JPN tag. What's up with that?

1. Yes, you can simply restart one of your games and change the language. It's that easy.

2. When you evolve a Pokemon that isn't nicknamed, it's name changes to the language of your game. You can evolve a Japanese Bulbasaur with a Japanese name and it's name will turn into Ivysaur, and vice versa; an English Bulbasaur evolved on a Japanese language game will have it's name become Japanese upon evolution.
