I only write in the middle of the night, my monitor as my only source of light. I'm blaring electronic music as loud as my system can handle and also I'm just barely still sober enough to be able to comprehend what I'm typing.

Any other circumstances and I'm all but incapable of being productive.

This is basically how I write too, minus the drinking and the music's not just electronic. I need to get used to writing when it's still light out.

ToTT: I don't really have writing habits. I usually just write whenever I feel like I should or if something has particularly grabbed me in the moment; recently that's been around the 10pm - 1am zone.

Sometimes conversation or an image catalyzes a desire to get something out and I usually do.
>>
>>32146652
How do these anons get the determination for such huge chapter fics?
>>
>>32148662

Time, energy, coffee, comfy, inspiration, and patience.

That and some people tend to write in sections rather than one go. For me it helps to do it in thirds.
>>
>>32148728
>Time, energy, coffee, comfy, inspiration, and patience.

This but replace patience with alcohol.
>>
>>32146565
>TotT
I've messed around with various things trying to get myself in a writing mood, but not much sticks. All I need is good music, motivation, and maybe an energy drink. I usually write at night.

In terms of habits while actually writing, I write in near-complete formatting when writing new content. Quotation, punctuation, paragraphs, orientation, the works. I have to stop myself from fixing every little mistake as I go along. It just eats at me to leave it until later. I know it's not the best way to do things, but it's what makes sense to me.

>>32148662
If you have a story idea that you love enough, you'll find the time and patience to write it.

Work ethic is another story.
>>
>ToTT
I want it to be fucking void of people. Not quiet, necessarily, but empty as hell. Not exactly an easy thing in this house.

Also, fever pitch scenes deserve fever pitch music of appropriate correspondence. In just the last few paragraphs of the climax chapter of Ears, I probably played certain songs three or four times to keep that groove going. I know all about that 'readers won't hear the music in the same scene' thing, blah blah.

>>32148662
The will to see things done as they were meant to be. Despite the heartache and the hours dumped and the other blaring difficulties of writing creative longform, if you want badly enough for a story to be fully realized, then it will happen. Once you get that original rhythm down, it's harder to actually give up than it is to keep going. It's a bit of a pride thing, too.

After a week off, here's "Vines of Deceit" Chapter 4: Triple Threat: http://archiveofourown.org/works/9294437/chapters/23012040

I spent the last week working on NEW content, as opposed to editing old stuff (said new content was VoD13, which is about 70% done)

I'll do my best to keep posting these in a timely fashion. Though the next chapter I'll be posting is TDT10, and that's pretty lengthy.

The rough drafts are riddled with notes to myself, anyway. The only reason to feel bad about a shitty story is if it was intended to be the final product, and all this is just the bones and sinew of the project. There's a lot less weight on my shoulders like this, but when I get a computer running, I imagine it's going to be fucking hell.

TOTT: I don't write as much as I should, but when I do, I have a couple habits and preferences. I prefer to be alone, for example. I really find it tough to write if there are other people around. I also hate it when there's lots of random background noise going on, but even so, I like having some sort of noise so long as it isn't distracting. Something along the lines of instrumental music or white noise/environmental sounds, provided it fits what's going on in the story. There's a site called mynoise I like to use for the white noise; as for music, I usually just find songs on youtube.

>Habits
Dear god! but in all fairness procrastination does count
>time
If i wake up early, i can usually tackle something in the afternoon rather well. If i get a good meal with some sort of healthy fat the gears in my head really get turning. But ironically the most i ever wrote was when i didn't sleep for about 2 days in a row, wasn't for any of the fics here though. I wish it was though
>Music
I tend to try to find a specific track that fits the tone and story i try to build in my mind. That way when i get down to writing, i just put on a playlist starting off with that song, and it gets me going.
>lighting
Like i said, afternoon with good sleep and diet.

Writing does come with some regret though. There are some points where i've unhealthily wanted to keep going into 4 am, and other moments where i get burned out after a few words. It's funny because i can generally write something involving education (essay, report, ect) and keep at it for hours on end. But creativity really takes true effort. Best i could describe it is your mind makes it up at the very bottom of your head, that way you have to swim to the bottom while holding your breath to get it. On the way there you realize 'oh wait this is trash, i can do better,' and the crevice gets deeper. But when you finally reach the bottom you have a good ass idea that will stick with you for the rest of your life. Dear god is it satisfying to finish something that was difficult to put together, it really is just childbirth for males, making a story that is.
Going back to regret, it definitely is something that can bog you down. Real life shit, internet relationships, even waking up on your stomach can fuck up your flow. Just recently i felt so damn sick of writing because of some internet drama i had to help deal with, but i think i'm in the groove again. There are moments where what would take a week takes six months, and then next week it takes you an hour.
tldr: I'm a huge faggot and it takes me 100+ words to explain why mental health is important.
But if it's something your interested in, fucking go for it. Even if it's just a tiny little 1k word fic. At least you experimented in this life, and at best, you got an appreciation for language and storytelling.
Just remember one thing though. Comedy is like a school shooter, everything is a target.
>>
>>32157631
>it really is just childbirth for males
Then what is it for females? Like pulling a splinter but a book comes out?
>>
>>32157657
Shieet I'm bad at similes.
I meant that, while sure it's fucking hard to do, in the end you come out with something (someone) you're really fucking proud of.
But yea, replace the book with a text document and its accurate

>What habits do you have when you write? Specific times, any music, certain lighting?

I tend to do the bulk of my writing on weekends, with mornings and afternoons spent sketching out planning and actual scene-writing done in evenings. Anything that I can't immediately fill offhand gets left with a temporary tag that I fill in later after bouncing ideas around with beta readers.

While I admittedly don't always practice it, I can readily vouch for writing while under a directed focus being a lot more conducive to actual progress than multitasking.

On the note of focus, I have a belated publishing of a chapter that I rolled out last night.

Shorter than it's been in a long while, but it accomplishes what it needs to.

Tott: I usually listen to pokemon related music to get me in the groove. But it really depends if I write lewd or not. When I write sex scenes, I prefer silence, because then I need full concentration to make it satisfying enough.

Also, I wrote a human x Meowstic one-shot (NSFW) Is anybody interested in reading something like that? Because I wouldn't mind sharing it with you guys.

>>
Hey /vp/, long time no see.

I wrote a completely innocent non-lewd story for you to enjoy. It is about the power of friendship and not judging people by their looks and absolutely positively nothing else involving three sexed up pokemon girls and a male trainer.

Enjoy

That certainly sounds like good, wholesome fun,
>>
>>32164908
Well, I've got two folders. Femdom quickies, which revolves around one human and one pokemon. These kinda stories are very light femdom with a romantic touch, like my Meowstic fic, for example. And my main folder, which contains stories with multiple humans and/or pokemon, and hardcore femdom. The latter focuses more on themes like BDSM, toy play etc. If you enjoy femdom, why not take a look in that folder. Maybe something will catch your fancy ;)

Also, I'm glad you liked my Meowstic fic either way :3

>tfw I get inspired when I'm laying in bed but when I want to write the ideas down I become uninspired
>>

>allowing You to tantalize yourself.
Were you inspired, you'd go straight to writing the story. You're feeling the opportunity to inspire yourself. If it strikes while you're already in bed, just lay there, eyes closed, and (prepare to be blown away) imagine the scene. Once you get enough to write up a chapter from it, do so.

Granted, shit happens to interrupt like "going to work" or "feeding the cat" but if you get far enough to solidify the fundamental concept, you'll be able to come back to it with only trivial deviations (that may "seem" like a big difference but that's a perception misfire).
>>
>>32170804
>Were you inspired, you'd go straight to writing the story.
I guess you're right. I've been forcing myself to write lately and that's never good.
>You're feeling the opportunity to inspire yourself. If it strikes while you're already in bed, just lay there, eyes closed, and (prepare to be blown away) imagine the scene.
I already do that, although it's never enough to write a full chapter or even a short story.
>>
>>32170863
>I've been forcing myself to write lately and that's never good.
Agreed. Look back and remember the passion that motivated you before. There's a spark there with which you need to become reacquainted.

>My next Pokemon story—yes, the one that I started while writing E/V that was stalled at about 23k and is now in the 30's but still dragging its feet—has somewhat diverged from its original concept, enough that I'm not sure if I should retain or change its title.
>But aside from catching eyes on the Recently Updated list, a title's probably only as useful as it is distinct, which means my predilection for obtuse vocabulary selections would have whatever I choose find statistically equal dismal results.

Does anybody give much of a damn about stories' titles? [Y/N]
>>
>>32174493
Yes. So much so I changed a title after release to better reflect what it was the point of the work was.

I put a decent chunk of thought into the titles for my works, and it's been noted by parts of my readership both old and new. Some found it intimidating, some intriguing, and others just wondered why it was I picked such a strange and obscure title to begin with.

Summaries are a similar story.
