Actually, giving Zangoose purple claws would be cooler. They've fought Seviper for so long, that their claws are laced with toxins. It's a cool little bit of headcannon.

They really fucked up changing it honestly. Shiny zangoose even has blue scars from the blue fangs of shiny seviper but shiny seviper doesn't have orange scars from shiny zangoose claws. These are the things that really bother me in life.

Other than that, Gen I is the truly one off model, most because they did the concepts AFTER the sprites.

And Salamence colors are better in the sprite.

Gen 1 looked decent due to the limitations of the Gameboy.
Gen 2 has the best spritework in the series and looks absolutely fantastic for a Gameboy game.
Gen 5 has those really awkward animations, I'll give you that but they didn't look off proportionately or color-wise.

With Gen 3, it was on the GBA and had more colors and shit to work with. There was no excuse for it to look as cheesy and trashy as it did. The overworld and battle sprites were just plain ugly despite having access to much better technology.

FRLG looked much better than RSE.

Gen 2 didn't have wonky sprites except for Raikou's face and Sneasel's coloring, both of which got fixed in Crystal. Gen 1's sprites range from "just fine" to "Jesus Christ kill it with fire" but it was the first game, so it really does get a pass for that, especially because they were trying to find a footing for the series at that point still.

But you are right, Gen 5's sprites are vomit-inducing in motion, though they look great while not animated.

Its pixelated because they're just tweening sprites. Most pre gen 5 pokemon have rehashed sprites from one of the gen 4 games.

He's talking about semantics and since the "goose" from Zangoose name is from Mongoose, it would make more sense if the plural follow its origin term.

as far as battle graphics go, I'd say 2>6/7>4>3>1>5

BW graphics always looked like a putrid pixel soup to me. The faux-3d effect with the zoomed backsprites made everything look very wonky.
