True, having what basically amounts to a free huge power on an already good physical attacker with plenty of coverage, high powered fighting STAB and STAB priority does sound great on paper, but mega Lucario is still the better option because of three things:

1: Adaptability, which boosts the STAB from a 1.5 multiplier to a full 2x multiplier. And in the long run, this'll be more beneficial when coupled with the 35 point attack boost and access to both bulk up and swords dance.

2: The defense boost. 12 points might not sound like a lot, but trust me, it makes a hell of a difference. It allows Lucario to potentially live another turn when base Lucario would've been one-shot.

3: And finally, the speed boost, the most important factor in why mega Lucario>Thick club Lucario. Upon mega evolution, Lucario gets a significant 22 point boost to its speed, allowing it to outspeed a good amount of threats that would normally check him, like Garchomp and Arcanine.
