My first favorite character from Pokemon and I'm still bitter he lost. He deserved to win. He was way stronger than Ash, but plot armor gave the victory to Ash, because muh ape and muh rivalry.

He's literally the anime equivalent to a competitive player. What he did to Chimchar was downright cruel though, and downright stupid. He knew that little monkey had power, he just needed to learn to grow an ounce of patience.

Would've liked him a lot better if he was actually acknowledged as a stupidly abusive asshole to Chimchar and not just 'different'. That kinda overshadowed everything on what otherwise solid character.
