Very nice set of legendary Pokemon

Solgaleo's legs body have way too much unnecessary contour making it look disgustingly more complex than it really is. Otherwise it's okay.

Lunala is top tier, I love how it seamlessly blends elements of bats, skeletons, crescent moons, skeletons, and darkness all into one design that can pull itself into a perfect circle to represent the full (or new?) moon. I appreciate it more as a work of art than a believable creature.

They are top tier, but I have just a few minor nitpicks with both.

My only real problem Solgaleo is the red markings on its legs. Those are unnecessary and just stand out. I'm not sure how I feel about the muscly look it has, but I don't hate that, at least. Not a fan of the paws either.

As for Lunala, I HATE the finger-like things it has jutting out of its wings. I get what they were going for when I see it in Full Moon phase, but normally, they bother me too much. Not a big fan of the face's shape either.

The other problems I have with both are more about their concept, rather than design. I dislike Solgaleo's Special Ability. I think it's boring. I dislike how Lunala is always suspended in midair.

Despite all this nitpicking, though, I still they're top tier designs. The third best, as far as box legends go, not counting Kanto starters. I'd rate them 8.7/10 for Solgaleo, 8.5/10 for Lunala.

Lunala has a better overall design, but both are good.

Solgaleo unfortunately only has 1 or 2 viable sets and not a whole lot interesting going on with his kit. Lunala has some interesting options thanks to both good bulk and good special attack. She can either be a tank with Cosmic Power/Roost+Shadow Shield, or she can be a bulky attacker with Calm Mind/Substitute, or she can be an all-out attacker with access to a number of very good special attack moves, including perfect neutral coverage thanks to Moonblast and Shadow Ball.

So as you can see, I kinda like Lunala better. Solagaleo is still a great pokemon, but he just falls a little flat for me. Not enough depth and variety of styles, plus a less interesting yet somehow more cluttered design.

It's not the band itself I have problem with. It's the color. Red stand out and looks just bad. It changes color and looks better in Radiant Sun mode. It's the same as Lunala's fingers in this regard.

Pokedex actually implies Solgaleo and Lunala are mle and female, in this case. Their team summaries do still list them as genderless, so there is that.

What exactly does an Ultra Beast look like? They all have very different designs. Nihilego and Pheromosa could pass as normal Pokemon IMO.

And this my main problem, UBs look like aliens, micro-organisms and such, I find that Solgaleo and Lunala are too animal like and too, how do I say this....Stable? Sensible? They aren't really that 'out there' like the other UBs. Fucking Cosmog Is more UB like.

But they aren't normal UBs. Normal UBs are similar to normal Pokemon of this world. They are special UBs. Ones that have LIVED in this world. That's why they don't have Beast Boost.

I dunno man, maybe you're just not looking at them the right way? For one, it's how bat wings actually are, which helps solidify the bat detail, and I think if you remove the outer wings it makes Lunala have a sort of "astral vampire" look. The lower part of the wings look like a star-decorated cloak gracefully hanging from its skeletal floating torso, so it pulls off the undead, ghost, vampire, night, and space motifs all at once. The wings are just icing.

Also, it bears a striking resemblance to Antasma now that I think about it.

Great designs, and Lunala is fun to use in battle.
I also love the way they were implemented, I actually gave a shit for once and decided to put it on my team. It didn't just feel like an in universe weapon of the bad guy, or some ethereal, superpowered being that stood above other Pokemon. It was a little smokeball that grew up over the course of the game and was an actual story character, one that served to help with the development of other characters as well. Excellent legendaries.

Lunala is okay, Solgaleo is okay in-game but the artwork looks bad, both are generally very low tier box mascots, same tier as Sinnoh.
