There's something oddly endearing in getting a positive response from such an apathetic looking creature, like seeing it barely cracking a smile when happy.
It may fake indifference but deep down you know it loves the affection. It's like entering into its intimacy, basically.
>>
>>32114965
Yeah, Pheromosa seems like the type not to show emotions easily, but isn't actually as distant as it seems. Maybe it's very emotional, but we can't tell because the emotional expressions are alien to us?

It barely even emotes at all. Sure, it has eyes, but there's simply no life to it. Every one of its expressions conveys only the idea of "I hate all of you/this place is boring". Even the head tilt when you pet it in amie is barely a change. Even fucking Xurkitree is more expressive of emotion and it doesn't even have a face.

Interesting. Honestly. aliens that learn to experience human emotions bother me to a great degree. They may be able to learn to understand them, but they could never FEEL them. I suppose they MIGHT be able to relate one of their alien concepts to one of ours, if the ability to relate concepts even exists to them
>>
>>32117408
Expressiveness is not about whether it emotes or not. Expressiveness is an attribute. In comparison, for example, Buzzwole's face is not expressive.
>>
>>32118004
>In comparison, for example, Buzzwole's face is not expressive.
Yeah and he uses his muscles to convey his emotions. I have no idea how Pheromosa conveys her emotions as she looks very emotionless.
>>
>>32118349
Big eyes, mostly "flat" faces, and large eyelashes or eyebrows are hallmarks of an expressive character design (see anime characters and other cartoon designs, stuffed animals, certsin domesticated pet breeds, etc). It just so happens that the personality Pheromosa expresses is aloof nonchalance. Expressiveness and the emotions being conveyed are two different things.
>>
>>32118432
It has the face for expressiveness, but never uses it for that purpose. That's what I was trying to say a while back.
>>
>>32118432
>Flat face for expressions
>It's literally half of a super shallow dome that barely lets you see its mouth and squishes its eyes to the point where it basically can't express anything
>>
>>32118469
Stuffed animals or dogs like pugs dont show off amiles or get visibly pissed off but are still considered adorable. Its the same effect here. I understand what youre trying to say but you were trying to contradict the expressiveness thing from whar I gathered.
>>
>>32118495
You only have to look at the pictures in this thread to see how wrong you are dude, even if pheromosa appearing especially pissed or happy isnt really in character. But the point is that its design is perfectly capable of a range.
>>
>>32118504
Another anon picked up in my stead, the only thing I wrote was
>>32117408

All I meant by it is that it has the means to emote and be expressive, but never does.
>>
>>32118504
Also, the reason things like pugs and stuffed animals are cute is because they're either very friendly looking in the case of stuffed animals or very bewildered/silly looking, in the case of pugs. Very cute things to have as your default look, whereas total apathy isn't cute to most people. It might be to you, but generally speaking it's viewed as offputting.
>>
>>32118629
Fair enough, but I did only say it had an expressive design.
>>
>>32118629
the thing is, it's an alien being, so it's very likely it's very emotional and just doesn't express it the same way. Its name is Pheromosa, so the reason people are complaining about this is because 3ds don't come with 'smell-o-vision' so we can't smell her 'happy' pheromones or whatever.
>>
>>32118835
You said it was absolutely adorable before, and you just used pugs and stuffed animals to defend why it was adorable. I'm arguing that, by most people's standards, it isn't. If anything, it would most likely be perceived as pretty first. Not endearing, but pleasing to look at.
>>
>>32118872
Yeah, that's sorta what I'm thinking too. I'm actually
>>32117733

And I bet it would express emotions through pheromones rather than through expressions.
>>
>>32118872
>>32118916
Pheromone emotions would be a cool concept for it but we all know the fart fags would ruin it the second the info on that gets out.
>>
>>32118877
I said fair enough to most not finding the personality it exudes appealing. I concede that not everyone does or should find that appealing, bur I otherwise stand by what I said-- her design is expressive and I outlined se of the things that made it so. Large eyes and big eyebrows are features known for their expressiveness. How the whole package uses those features to display friendliness or whatever is a different function that I was not arguing and wasnt even aware you were putting forth as an argument for anything, just that people find dogs friendly and pheromosa is clearly not. That doesnt change that her features, and it really goes beyond, the face, its just the clearest way to illustrate the point, as its exaggerated body can also be very expressive the same way buzzwole's or zurkitree's is, are archetypically expressive even if the character doesnt exude a particularly extreme emotion with them.

Mega Beedrill requires you to use your Mega slot on Beedrill instead of saving it for something more devastating like Metagross. I'd say it's worth it to free up my Mega slot for something else.
