I was never even cognizant of the bara, proportion, or "human in suit" complaints till I came here, seeing it as just a cool tiger final evolution. My dream! Once I WAS aware and feeling the full brunt of these starter wars, I felt relatively lucky newer official art was from my viewpoint fixing the limb sizes up and IMO making its hands and feet more like paws in the Dream World-style portraits.

My complaint on hate can easily apply to the other two starters this gen, who also had pretty cool designs but got major "wtf human in suit" and "muh proportions" put-downs besides the numel/tranny crap. I'm a fan of Rowlet line mostly and it has been my favourite Gen 7 starter line since mid-evolutions were announced but I like the others too.
Popplio is probably my least favourite line and I think Primarina getting blonde hair for a shiny kinda ruins the design but that's just a habit for shiny designs in my eyes, really.
I guess unimpressive shinies help the original designs stick out. Mewtwo comes to mind.

I don't feel that this is a good thing. I don't ever want to play a new game and think something like "The White Treehollow was cool, I wish I was back in White 2". I think new games should eclipse old ones entirely and make them irrelevant.

This is why Gen 2 is still my favourite gen. I want additions, not replacements.

Gamefreak focusing on story, when they cannot tell a story if their company depended on it.

This goes further than me just not liking the story in the games. The writing in the games are bad because GF clearly doesn't know the steps necessary to tell a coherent story let alone a good story. I can't be the only one left flabbergasted at X/Y's wannabe disney tier ending theme? The fuck GF acting like we just experienced a masterpiece film and not a crappy contrived plot featuring terrible villain with even worst motives that ultimately was just a side quest in the grand scheme of things? Why should I feel sad/happy that some literal who that showed up one time and had about 2 lines of backstory got reunited with his flower?

These games don't exactly facilitate good writing since the writing always has to bend around you a 11 year old being more competent than every adult in the game.

The level design has gone down the shitter as well. I'm not saying strength and sliding puzzles were ever difficult, but they need to stop turning every cave and villain hideout into a goddamn corridor and do some actual level design.

Also the pokemon selection. Bats live in cave irl, but we have over 800 pokemon but all we get in caves are zubats. Cerulean cave in gen 1 had golbats on a single floor and they weren't even the top 3 common encounters. Yes I know it doesn't make sense for ostriches to be in caves, but whats the point in trying for "realism" in fantasy if you aren't even going to do real world building to support it?

Also the multiverse theory bullshit thats been getting shilled ingame since ORAS. Like time travel, Multiverse plots are inherently bad and what you do when you've exhausted decent plots and need to retread. Gamefreak still doesn't even have a fully coherently built world to start multiverse shit or the writing competence to pull off such a terrible premise in a entertaining way.

This boards obsession with child porn. And how pokemon starters have to resort to being dark and edgy to be popular. Greninja and Decidueye are undeniable examples.

The decline in Pokemon's quality since XY. It's fine if you like XY and/or SM, they just don't feel as fun as other gens. Only getting 80 or so new Pokemon and the noticeable casualizing make it pretty dull.

I felt it was more the lack of any proper postgame. Looker quests aren't postgame, new areas are postgame.

XY/SM were also too much slaves to their French/Hawaiian theme, and had too little variety in environment. In the end, their worlds were shallow in content and scenery.

They also aren't maximizing things that they could be doing for online features.I would have loved to be able to play in pokemon contests vs randoms or with friends online. I'd love to be able to play 6vs6 on the battle spot whether it be singles or doubles; I'd even settle for itemless 6vs6 singles like what they did in past battle spot tournaments. I'd love to be able to take on the multi battles in the endgame facilities with a friend over wifi as well.

Slowly discovering what content has been removed at the beginning of each gen, and reading through posts of people denying the possibility of content being taken away. Like 3 vs 3 and super training in Sun and Moon.

It's honestly really a letdown, the games could be so much more. For being the entire game, there's really not much you can do with Pokemon themselves either. It's mostly just fighting and Refresh, which is barebones. This is why following Pokemon was good, because it gave them something more to do, even if it was really basic.

There's not even minigames anymore. The Game Corner's gone because of the EU's stupidity, and yet they have no replacement. Throw in some shitty pinball or puzzle games in a game corner, it's not gambling if you made a prize always appear based on score. They had super barebones minigames in Amie, but those are gone now too, again for no reason.

As for regions, there has to be interesting locations and optional places to explore. Alola didn't really have anything, the closest you got was the desert, which you were walled off from until a specific point. There's also nothing as jarring as seeing the old "3+ trainers standing along an empty straight path that you have to fight." All it does is really show just how empty the area is.

GF's this huge company with a load of money, they could put in more effort but just dont, and fill their games to the brim with baffling design choices. Insane railroading even when bypassing it wouldn't make a difference This is a problem with all the games, withholding specific pokeballs/megastones for no reason, pokemon that are unnecessarily rare, pokemon that are too common, taking 20 years to remove HM's, disgusting obsession with cutting features that should be here to stay, I could go on and on.

It's depressing, the reason i have so many complaints with the games is BECAUSE i like the games, but they all could be so much better, they're just too afraid to change things too much. Trials were some change, but ultimately left me wishing i was just fighting a gym leader.

The fact that Game Freak is too conservative in the game's mechanics. Pokemon fans are extremely brand loyal and will consume anything with a Pikachu face slapped on it, yet Game Freak does not use that in their favor to implement bold changes on its formula; and seem to be afraid of releasing something so good that would overshadow future releases, so I get the feeling they intentionally trim the quality of their games for that effect. Honestly, I'm getting pretty sick tired of this board, since it just goes to shit after post-hype period and you need to sacrifice a lot of your innocence to even enjoy being here with the kind of shitposting and starter wars around.

Hadn't I come to these boards, the experience I got from here probably wouldn't have affected how bittersweet I feel about this generations' starter trio. The whole leaks thing happening tremendously early (like five months early, with no warning at all) and the constant bickering from all parties really did ruin them for me.

Or maybe it's because the game's already grown extremely stale for me, it's barely got anything for me to get my complete attention towards it.

These games have been disappointing, but I guess that's what happens when you get expectations for once in your life. I enjoyed the previous ones far more (excluding HGSS and ORAS since I haven't played those)
