I went to the pokemon mega center in tokyo and it really sucked.

I was hoping for a wall of like all the pokemon as little figurines and a bunch of gimmicky fun things, but instead it was pikachu stuffy featuring x.

they do pokemon battles there all the time. nips didn't stand a chance against ou meta- not even the ash cosplayers

anyways, that is my blog

I feel like my love for pokemon took a heavy toll with that disappointment; I really shoved that place up on a pedestal.

Its your fault for having faith in Japan

>Paris syndrome (French: Syndrome de Paris, Japanese: パリ症候群, Pari shōkōgun) is a transient psychological disorder exhibited by some individuals when visiting or vacationing to Paris, as a result of extreme shock resulting from their finding out that Paris is not what they had expected it to be. It is characterized by a number of psychiatric symptoms such as acute delusional states, hallucinations, feelings of persecution (perceptions of being a victim of prejudice, aggression, or hostility from others), derealization, depersonalization, anxiety, and also psychosomatic manifestations such as dizziness, tachycardia, sweating, and others, such as vomiting. Similar syndromes include Jerusalem syndrome and Stendhal syndrome. The condition is commonly viewed as a severe form of culture shock. It is particularly noted among Japanese travelers.

fuck tokyo was amazing; it blew my mind

but yeah, i felt like a victim after that ordeal and was pretty sad for the rest of the day. threw up later too
>>
The entire point is that they change their merchandise all the time, anon. They have multiple lines of merchandise only on sale for a few months all the time, to make people buy a bunch immediately if they want it, and to keep people coming back for new shit.

The bar was set way to high, I thought it would have been larger and full of every pokemon kind of thing.

Akihabara was pretty super. my friend and I went to every hentai store we could find there. there is one that is 5 floors of porns, there was one that had a massive loli section, we went into a men's only hentai shop without noticing. A lot of figurine stores too- do you like thick or thin girls?

maid cafes were also pretty fun, tho two we tried going to told us we are not allowed in so lol.

UFOs are pretty neat too. you go in there and kawaii as fuck girls swarm you and keep pressuring you to pump more money into the machines.

>>32050085
maybe I didn't really give it much of a chance, I think if I went there again I would be a little more open minding about the place and enjoy some thoughtful consumerism.
>>

>we went into a men's only hentai shop without noticing.
you mean yaoi hentai store A.K.A gay porn?

>maid cafes were also pretty fun, tho two we tried going to told us we are not allowed in so lol.
why weren't you allow to be in the maid cafe?, you and your friend looked underaged or what?
>>
>>32050180
>wat

You seem to have expected a giant shop full of "everything" that a visitor to the area can go to once, buy all the souvenirs he wants, and then never feel a need to return.

That's not what it is. It's a store dealing in constantly changing, exclusive merchandise that fans can return to all the time and always find something new and cool. Those "little figurines" you expected? Toy stores have tons of those, especially online ones. Those "Pikachu stuffies featuring x" you complained about? Limited collectors' items that will no longer be on sale anywhere next month.

The type of store you expected would never have lasted because it wouldn't offer any reason for people to go there often.
>>
>>32050215
A lot of maid cafes don't allow foreigners because they're known for not knowing how to act in them.
>>
>>32050215
lol fuck... the one women's only shop was like 50% yaoi 50% shota

I dunno, we walked in and a maid would give us an X with her arms and asked us to leave. Other place was just like giggling and "no sorry".

>>32050238
yeah, you are right I get 100% what you mean. I thought about that when anon said the store is constantly changing and I saw a lot of LIMITED EDITION things. My expectations were pretty one time to go in and get all the pokemon I like and maybe thing DS things and books.

I feel better now understand that I did not have rational expectations for this place. I feel like next time I am in tokyo I am going to go there a few times instead of just once and being butthurt. I am in the complete wrong here, thank you for making me realize that. and next time I'll go alone so I can play pokemon with everyone there with a ds

kek, I wonder what it is exactly that people are shocked to find in Paris

A LOT of smaller, private businesses won't allow people that can't speak fluent Japanese because it's a fucking hassle to deal with them. This happens in America too. You can't walk into some tiny mom and pop cafe and start talking in Russian and hand signals and expect to not be treated as some annoying hassle they would prefer would just leave.
>>
>>32050250
Oh yeah, that makes sense.
now i'm imagining an old japanese man teaching his son how to behave in a maid cafe ''Now son, after the maid serves your tea, you must bow to thank her for her services, and when she turns around, you must quickly try to take a look under her skirt, and then cover your nose as to not let your nosebleed ruin your tea''
>>
>>32050350
It's also >>32050321
Chances are nobody working there knew English to any real extent, so it'd just have been an awkward mess of them trying to talk to you and you not understanding what they said or what to reply.
>>
>>32050180
did you go to bar DIO at all? unless you don't like jojo thats fine

I'm really looking forward to visiting there once i visit japan. seems like a cool joint
>>
>>32050817
nop, we never went that west.

sort of related, but we never went to any bars because everything was so expensive. I could buy walker black label for $19 and drink in public or get some $9 shit dry beer at a bar. They seem to really like Guinness.

getting slammed at a hostel and chatting with english speakers is more fun and affordable than getting drunk at a bar with not a lot of people to talk to.

but yeah drinking in public is a thing and oh boy did I feel super cool doing it lol. only really did it in the ropp area because anywhere else I'd be low class scum
>>
>>32050884
that still sounds fun though. glad you had a good time

whenever i hear of roppongi hills my mind instantly hits back to jet set radio... i wish they had a JSR bar in tokyo. or well maybe at least a sega bar.

did you manage to see any of the persona 5 locations irl? stuff like that's fun and neat
>>
>>32050951
I have never really had any interest in anime aside from pokemon, so I am not sure what I could have been looking for lol.

electric town area has a lot of really neat stuff there. didn't see much pokemon related things tho. really there wasn't that much pokemon anything in general. a lot of really psychedelic stores that lead you into a crowded basement.

a lot of gambling there too, everytime I saw an arcade it ended up being straight up WIIIIIN A BALL WIN MONEY!

My friend is a complete crab, so next time I need to go alone to really enjoy all the vidya related things and play arcade games for a few hours. Just in general it would be easier going there solo.

you can pet that owl
