Why is dark/poison considered a good typing when dark removes all of poison's resistances?

Poison-type neutralizes all of Dark-type's weaknesses. Dark-type immunizes one of Poison-type's weaknesses.
It would be a match made in heaven if either type carried even half as many resistances as Steel-type. Alas, Poison-type is a defensive type that got a unique set of resistances, rather than a shitload.
It also doesn't help that GF is terrified of Poison-types over 460 BST

Poison got fucked over when Dark became the new "evil" Type. We got a few good Poison Types after Gen 1 (Scolipede, Toxapex), but it's gotten almost as little love as Ice aside from making it strong against Fairy.

The distinction existed before Gen VII. It's not about colorful backdrops. It's about whether or not its allowed into battle facilities.
It's just a subclass of Legendary (like Mythical is a subclass) except you can take it into a battle facility, unlike the others. No need to sperg out.

I still have no idea why this is the case, or why it hasn't been fixed by now.

It's especially weird since Nidoran females can breed, but the moment they evolve, they can't. Meanwhile, with pre-evos like Pichu and Riolu, they can't breed until they evolve.
I figured it was just a glitch when introducing genders in gen II, but they didn't correct it from gen III onward. That would imply it's a deliberate decision, which brings up a whole slew of uncomfortable implications.
