There's a lot wrong with the Ashime that is completely unexcuseable, but these are my biggest gripes:

1: Moves that don't cause direct damage can knock a pokemon out like Onix using screech on Pikachu.

2: Fully evolved pokemon still knowing garbage, low power, and in some cases not-100% accurate moves. Like Greninja knowing cut. Fucking CUT. Not any other claw or slashing based moves, fucking cut. "Ash was a competent trainer in X&Y" my ass!

3: NFE pokemon being able to knock out fully evolved pokemon and even legendaries in some cases because of "the power of friendship". The only time the "power of friendship" is applicable is when a normal type makes that power literal by using return.

4: Pokemon getting hit by moves they shouldn't under ANY circumstances. Like Golem getting hit by thunderbolt and Scizor getting hit by poison jab.

I was considering putting "physical attackers knowing special moves and vice versa" on the list but I let it slide because I still know pokemon (especially the anime) is aimed at kids and I don't expect them to really know the difference.

I kind of didn't care about that part as much. It was the same with Mewtwo beating all of Red's Pokemon, including Lapras and Articuno. It was just something they did to show that Giovanni was brokenly strong, stronger than the E4, and it drove that point home just fine. They could've just have had him use Earthquake, but it wouldn't have been as dramatic.

If you disliked this sort of thing, you wouldn't watch Origins beyond the first episode. The second scene in the very first episode is a Gengar using Double Edge, and in the same episode, an Onix breaks free of String Shot, but later it turns out a single strand remained and leads to its defeat. I watched it and didn't care because, quite clearly, the battles weren't the focus in Origins. That's why there were so little of them, and what was there was really rushed. The battles were just a dramatic tool used to let the characters grow and resolve the conflicts.

I don't understand all the fuss the attacks just glow to let the viewers indicate that the Pokemon is specifically using an attack.

You know if you play Mystery Dungeon, most Pokemon can easily go mixed, damage is mostly based on stats which are less minmaxed, and base power can be leveled up to match stronger moves. Move range is also important, even a melee attacker benefits from having a projectile up his sleeve. The anime is mechanically much closer to that, or perhaps the other way around.

Move power in the mainline games is completely irrelevant to the show. Greninja's moveset is thematic. Aerial Ace kung fu, Water Shuriken projectile, Double Teams behind you, unsheaths Cuttana. Cut is also thematic in that it cuts trees, which played into his rivalry with Sceptile.

Adhering strictly to a turn based RPG doesn't make good anime.

I actually like how the anime tries to be game-loyal by signifying stat changes as speedlines like in the games.
