There's a ton of really bad hacks out there, and I'm wondering if /vp/ knows any with
>No/few fakemons
>Fixed trade evolutions
>No/few grammar mistakes
>Reasonable difficulty
>Physical/Special Split preferred

I've played and liked Prism,
>>
POMEMON CLOVER
>>
>>32034190
>no/few fakemons
but yeah i have played clover, it's good for a laugh
>>
GBC
Pokemon Brown
Pokemon XY-Naturia

GBA
Pokemon Dark Rising
Pokemon Dark Rising 2
Pokemon Dark Rising 2 Epilogue-Order Destroyed
Pokemon Blazed Glazed
Pokemon Dark Cry:Legend of Giratina
Pokemon Light Platinum
Pokemon Victory Fire
Pokemon Resolute

Unfinished but look good
Pokemon LIFE
Pokemon Gaia
Pokemon Dark Energy

Meme Games
Pokemon My Ass
Pokemon A Grad Day Out

Don't remember if they all meet your requirements but these are fun.

Pokemon Gaia is excellent. Vega is great too if you can get past the level curve and the insane, outlandish coverage on every bossmon.

>>32035091
>Dark Rising

Immediately disregard. Don't listen, OP, Dark Rising is one of the worst, most poorly balanced ROMhacks in existence.
>>
>>32035153
I thought the story was okay if a bit edgy which is why I mentioned it.Really didn't remember how balancing was.
>>
Pokemon Adventure Red
>>
>>32035180
The level curve was fucking insane, even higher than Vega's to a ridiculous degree. Though now that I'm remembering, I think I heard he fixed it. It's just really busted in my physical copy.
>>
>>32036204
This, it's got a shitload of content even if the writing/scripting is choppy. Two very full regions of stuff to do, my team is in the 80s near the end of the second region, it's LONG
>>
>>32034183
Crizzle's hacks:
Pokemon Outlaw (Fire red)
Pokemon CAWPS (Emerald)
Pokemon Korosu (Fire red, you start in Sevii Islands)

Preferably in that order, because there are references to Outlaw in CAWPS and Korosu

Have all you want and a more mature atmosphere (adult themes and death)
>>
Theta Emerald EX. It has all the updates and mechanics from Gen 6 including fairy type, special split, mega evolution, all pokemon, moves, and abilities. Want your Frontier? There it is.
>>
>>32036437
These are bottom-of-the-barrel shit, don't play them.
It's just a carbon-copy of Firered but with crappier dialogue that will make you cringe every step on the way.
>>
>>32035091
Dark Rising and Victory Fire are shit, although Victory Fire can be good for a laugh.
Grand Day Out is a fun little game, though.
>>
>>32035153
I second the Vega recommendation, and also second the warning about the brutal level curve. 3rd gym has a Lv. 30 Starmie with perfect coverage that will likely ohko your entire team the first time you fight it.
>>
I always wondered, if you had physical copies of these rom hacks, would you be able to link-battle with someone who has the same game?
>>
>>32037233
how is it a carbon copy? the maps are changed, the plot is different, there's tournaments.. etc
>>
uranium is so good it got taken down lel
but it has fakemons

Just play Drayano's hacks

>No autistic story (which is every romhack with an original story)
>No fakemon

ULTRA is another memegame, probably one of the worst Hacks out there
>>
>>32037502
I collect these, not only can you trade with the same copy, you can with the real games too. In fact, if you connect to FRLG/RSE with a game with fakemon and battle, the games will desynch because the fakemon will be the fakemon in the hack and whatever it replaced in the real game, it's super neat.

Actually i was thinking more the hacks that chuck you legendaries and overlevelled giftmons left and right.
>>
>>32038340
lole......
>>
>>32038082

Reborn isn't actually hard, they just make you use very situational and gimmicky sets which just requires backtracking and grinding until you're far enough along to use mons you actually like and have a selection from. A decent selection doesn't really even happen until you make it out of the wards and into the forest.

I'd say vega is a better display of "skill" since you don't have the ridiculous level cap they actually use mons with coverage rather than make you just play around being 10 levels lower.

>>
>>32038369
>They don't make you play around being 10 levels lower

Oh anon. That's a good one. Do you not remember grinding a wild level 8 mon to 28 in increments of 100 exp because the gym leader had a totally unbeatable by anything else mon and the wild Pokemon/normal trainers in the game are underleveled as fuck?
>>
>>32038369
vega makes up for it with its retardedly "difficult" puzzles
>>
>>32038397

No, no I don't.

>>32038419

That's a more than fair point but many games do that shit nowadays and reborn has its own issues too. I remember the chess puzzle being fucking annoying because of the mechanics to move the pieces as well as the view you had.

There's this ROMhack of Crystal called Crystal Clear.

It adds:
-Physical Special Split. Ghost is Special and Dark is Physical, as it should be.
-Only a few Fakemon (3 prevos, a Steel/Flying Farfetch'd evolution, and an Electric/Ghost type named Wiregaust)
-A handful of new moves, and buffs to existing moves.
-Makes HMs outside of Surf and Fly more viable (Flash, for example, is an Electric Type Mud Slap. Whirlpool is replaced with an HM called Still, a Psychic type move that raises Sp.Atk. Waterfall is replaced with a move called Ascend, a 80BP Dragon type attack).
-Items to replace trade evolution.
-Makes some weaker Pokemon stronger (Meganium is a great pick), by increasing the base stat total and/or changing them.
-Changes type of many Pokemon (Electabuzz and Magmar have Fighting types, Ninetails is Fire/Ghost, Ledian is Bug/Psychic, and Gyarados is Water/Dragon, for example). Some Pokemon's colors are even altered to reflect their type changes (Spearow and Fearow are Dark/Flying, and are dark in coloration). There are many crazy but still sensical type changes, so some may come off as a surprise.
-Some Pokemon have improved movepools, some to reflect type changes.
-Some changes to the type effectiveness chart (Ice resists Water, Grass, and Dragon, and Flying and Dragon no longer resist Grass).
-Level curve is improved.
-Gym leaders and the E4 have more Pokemon and are much stronger, but aren't aggravatingly difficult.
-Red is stronger, too.

Only hiccup I encountered during play was when I was training a Seadra to get a Kingdra, and I found out later that Horsea's line was changed to a split evolution. Seadra has higher Sp.Atk and Def than Kingdra, but Kingdra is part Dragon and has balanced stats. The person who created this ROM even put that in the notes after I expressed my grievance.

https://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=361462

Really good ROM. Had a lot of fun experiencing the new attacks, types, and difficulty changes.

I'd like to add that while the frontier is functional and very fun, there are some pretty big glitches you have to be aware.

The most serious is the fact that participating in the frontier will sink your entire hms/tms pocket into oblivion, and if you find any new tms afterward, they vanish too. Every item in your items pocket gets multiplied to ?x9, and any item in a specific slot (I don't remember which, unfortunately) will not only multiply itself to the limit, but will take up every remaining free slot in that pocket, all multiplied. Even though the bag size is expanded in this hack, you won't be able to add anything to your items pocket, due to it being full. You can throw things out, but it's a massive pain due to the sheer amount of stuff you now have.

Another glitch takes place in the battle arena. If your opponent successfully uses a hit and switch move like u-turn or volt switch, when the game attempts to retrieve the pokemon again, gen 3's placeholder mon will pop in its place and the game will freeze. You will probably need to restart whatever emulator you are playing on.

On the other hand, if you are the one who used a hit and switch move, instead of taking you to the pokemon selection screen, it will instead retrieve your opponent's team in the order they were placed, even pokemon that you had fainted, overlapping the sprites one on top of the other for the duration of the turn, until the last pokemon had been retrieved and the turn ends. You are then allowed to use your opponent's final pokemon against them, moves and all. I beat a water Arceus that had previously walled my team with that same Arceus.

Keep lots of save states handy.

Yeah Crystal is really good but the postgame sucks major ass.

The part where the NPCs first go on and on about you needing to go to the power plants for this really urgent matter and then tell you LOL not finished go visit our Facebook site actually made me a bit angry.

>>

Does it add retarded OC into the game? The last time I play a 2nd gen romhack, I got some fedora fucktard that battle me the second I left the starter town and has Cyrus' theme.
>>

Nope! It's just the core game with changes to make gameplay more varied and interesting.

Got a name for it? I'm always interested in GBC hacks with custom music, and the few guys I know of who do Gen 2 music haven't covered Cyrus's theme so it must be someone I haven't heard of.
>>
>>32041852
It gen 3 and it shiny gold
>>
>>32041199
So overrated that it should deserve a ED article
>>
>>32041870
I don't remember Shiny Gold having custom music, but that's a Gen 3 hack. Shiny Gold's custom trainers were pretty lame, I agree. One of them even ends up being the final boss instead of Lance. If you want a Johto remake in Gen 3 that's actually accurate, look at CrystalDust. It's not finished but neither are any other Gen 3 Johto hacks.
>>
>>32035091
>not Vega, Prism, Crystal Dust, or Flora Sky
>recommend shit like Light Platinum
Your list is fucking shit
>>
>>32041928
Yeah I play the hell out of it and it one of the reason why I love CrystalDust. It remains true to the main game while being a proper port to a next gen
>>
>>32041928
Liquid Crystal?
>>
>>32042411
Liquid Crystal is closer to the original than Shiny Gold but still has OCs.
>>
>>32042437
How bad are the OC there?
>>
>>32041942
OP has already played Prism and Vega has fakemons.Crystal Dust is good but not finished and Flora Sky was decent so I'll give you that.
>>
>>32042452
I'm only halfway through, but so far not bad. They can be kind of annoying where your new "rivals" pop up without warning and challenge you to a battle, but they're not overbearing and the original evil team do look like they could come from a pokemon game, even if their designs are somewhat goofy. I say it's fine, but I have yet to find out what shenanigans will go down in Kanto.
>>
>>32040211
As far as I know, the hacker is no longer working on the hack, so no. I did manage to get all of the gold symbols, but it's a good idea to train all the pokemon that you want to use and teach them all of their moves before starting to play there, as you won't be able to do so afterwards.

While we're on the subject, two more things that don't work in Theta EX are contests and very specifically, HP EV training. Contests freeze up the moments you get to the appeals round, you'll have to restart the emulator. HP EV training just flat-out does nothing. Aside from HP UPs, there is no way to gain EVs in that category.

The latter is at least mitigated by the fact that you can trade with Nameless Fire Red, another 721 hack that functions similarly to Theta EX with most of the same features. HP EV training works fine in that game, and some people recommended training back and forth to get your trained mons.

Theta is still very good, though, especially in casual play. The sheer amount of available pokemon and team building options are great, and 99% of the time the game functions like a charm. It's really a good hack.
