Look at this sea cucumber I caught yesterday. I was EV training at the beach and got it on literally the FIRST sos pokemon. basically the first shiny I ever got that I wasn't hunting for.
caught in my extra friend ball and named it Green Bean. actually has a defensive nature too but zero IVs of course.

Personally I dont think the Switch is worth buying right now. The console issues are worrying, and there's nothing for awhile but Zelda on the console. If you want a Switch, i'd wait for a bundle further down the line, and buy BotW on the Wiiu if you own one.

Catch the pokemon, check the DVs. You need a 1/8192 spread for it to convert to a shiny on transport to gen 7. I recommend against it, since resets take upwards of one minute each.

I find Safari to be easier than constantly collecting eggs and what not since I can read textbooks while I do it, so I typically don't MM unless the Pokemon is useless competitively without an egg move

If the Female doesn't swap over to Togepi with her 1/8 chance, I'll swap in Gible. If Gible doesn't have the HA swapped over, I'll stick with Ferrothorn

Shiny charm is what you get for finishing the pokedex. If you're playing sun/moon this is very easy with only 301 pokemon, then you talk to the game director in the game freak office and he gives it to you. It triples your shiny encounter rate. Honestly I wouldnt start shiny hunting until you have it. Also unless you're breeding for stats, moves, ability, etc. sos chaining roggenrola is probably faster. Got mine last week only 45th in the first chain, granted I do have the charm.

Gonna keep hoping for more Female Magikarps so I can keep checking whether I could finally get that 1/8 shiny female Togepi

Otherwise, I'll settle for whatever from this box. First row is Pokémon I want to be female. Second is genderless. Third is the "I wouldn't mind these being Male" row. Last row still needs some proper egg moves and fixes with natures. Or a Heal Ball
