The two trial episodes were disappointing. 11 was a Kaki focus episode people liked a lot. Beyond that, it's been the usual mess of underutilized companions and lolgagfaces. Team Rocket are pretty well received. Mao is still best girl.

Episode 11 was good. The plot is basically "Satoshi visits Kaki on his farm, meets his family and sees a bunch of new sides to the guy". Not a whole lot really happens, but we learned a lot more about the guy. Also, his sister is pretty much Eureka.

It's a good episode, definitely watch that one.

Also, in episode 8, it was mentioned that Lilie can't touch Pokemon because of something that happened in her childhood that she's forgotten, and it's heavily implied Lusamine was involved. The class had to take care of an egg, and Lilie couldn't touch the egg either, but after she instinctively grabbed it to shield it from danger, she became able to touch it from there on. Then they repeated that exact same shit when it hatched into a Vulpix. She wasn't able to touch it at first, instinctively grabbed it to protect it, and is now able to touch it, but no other Pokemon.

They're not really badly written episodes, but her subplot and the resolution to her problem is so badly handled it's really hard to care, and they've basically wrapped it up now anyway.
Hopefully Aether will show up before too long, since the character has nowhere to go until that happens.

Even assuming that person watched the dub of DP back in the day, even then the actual episodes don't change plotwise so there was nothing "childish" about them. DP probably had the least amount of humor of all the sagas, aside from some aspects with Croagunk, etc.

AG's humor was actually pretty similar to the later portions of the OS, probably because it came directly after it.

One of the biggest problems with SM is how much of a departure it is from the norm, especially after having followed XY. The anime was never completely serious to begin with, but SM basically turning the show into a gag series after the comparably much more serious XY just makes the whole thing feel off.

There's no sense of adventure; the kids aren't exploring and learning on their own, having adventures and all that jazz. Instead, they go to school and go shopping or whatever mundane activity they're up to that week.

I just felt like Serena was excessively shallow and "girly" or whatever at times early on in XY, and that episode kind of epitomizes that. It just made her come off as weak. Ultimately she changed so much, though, that in retrospect it all made sense. I grew to absolutely adore her starting midway through XY. It's just that at the time I was watching those early episodes, I didn't like it. All that being said, there really weren't THAT many episodes that took it as far as XY21.

The thing is Serena is supposed to be girly and demure, it's her character. She was the "quietest" and most soft spoken of all the main girls, likely because she was designed to be a wife.

Dawn is an example of an action oriented girly girl, and that's why she was so different. May was also a mix between being a bit tomboyish and girly and having an adventerous personality.

This is kind of what I speak of when I say I didn't like XY21. Serena comes off as superficial, shallow and even somewhat prissy during scenes like these.

Though, again, she DOES end up changing, and for the better. I just felt the initial portrayal of that personality trait was kind of over the top.

XY is much better for sure when it's actually focusing on the plot, but the fillers were pure formulaic crap on the same level as Johto. SM's filler is at least entertaining and memorable. It has actual spirit and creativity to it, which is something that the Pokemon anime has been sorely lacking since Kanto.

DP and XY managed to be good without it since the plot and battles themselves were so great, and BW was an example of them trying but failing to revive the OS spirit, but SM finally feels like it's managed to grasp what made the original season entertaining despite its many major faults.

It isn't. It's the same level of filler as always, except with more reaction faces and three waifus instead of one.

Again, the memefaces and Ash doing stuff like moving his ass might make you think otherwise, but It's the same old "Ash and Character do Episodic Activity" as always. Either that or you're easily impressionable by the most mundane of things.

OS was good not because of comfy SoL (which in SM translated to a half-assed, dull pseudo-SoL). It was good because of the freshness of the characters and how good they interacted, because of how the episodes were interesting without losing the bit of good humor they had, because Ash's was in-character for what you would expect from an inexpert, hot blooded newfag with attitude, because of the best Brock and the best Team Rocket, because Misty wasn't entirely a poorly written tsundere, because Gary was such a great rival and foil to that version of Ash's character...that was what made OS a good Pokemon series (not to mention nostalgia goggles), and of course the gyms: despite the pity badges and all that, those episodes were well written and you could forgive them for not showcasing a good battle.

Unlike SM, which lacks the plots the rest of the series resolved around (Ash's gym quest/girl's goal/other assorted goals) and manages to make the character-focused episodes feel like fillers.

This. This is the main issue I have with SM. None of the episodes outside the first two and the Kahuna battle have been noteworthy beyond the week they aired (and the Kahuna battle wasn't that special of a battle). Sure, they give a lot of reaction faces, shots like twerking Ash and the girls in swimsuit, and the Autismo Family portrait, but the episodes themselves give little to nothing to discuss about beyond "so fun" or "so comfy". Except for the Litten episodes, and not that much either.

Reminder people here watch SM just to look for any kind of thing they can use to trigger amour fans.
It's their only purpose.
