Again, Kanto Pokemon seem to be inspired from genetic modification (of mostly reptiles) or engineered creations. The starters being modified reptiles irl, Mew having the DNA of all Pokemon (they even introduced Deoxys in FR/LG) Mewtwo, Porygon being created. Eevee having unstable DNA. I'm not sure what you don't get.

Well, for one, the starters aren't "genetically modified lizards"; they're monsters. Charizard (regardless of type) is a dragon. They're all suppose to be monster forms of regular animals or just random kaiju. Like how Grimer and Koffing are pollution monsters and Voltorb and Magnemite are robot monsters. Mew being the ancestor of Pokemon really isn't evidence for the "THEME" of the game being genetic modification; even Deoxys is explicitly an alien invader. Porygon and Eevee were indeed the result of human tampering, but 3/150 does not a theme make.

I disagree. Blastoise is a monster turtle, but it's modified with cannons. Venusaur is a plant mixed with a dinosaur. Gen 1 introduced the most fossils as well and revived them by extracting the DNA. It has been said that voltorb and pokeballs have a connection with each other and were discovered when Pokeballs were created. But voltorb isn't really apart of the point that I was trying to make.

Mew and Mewtwo and 2 of the starters is pretty valid evidence that the theme of the Pokemon in Gen 1 is genetics and modification considering that they're very important to the game.

Deoxys is DNA from outer space for sure, but it's still a genetically themed Pokemon, considering that it undergoes mutations.
