Megafug exists and when you're doing sky field strats you're shooting for OHKOs anyways so weakness shouldn't matter.

The only advantage he has is Ninetales PRC which can lock stadiums in and doesn't fit well into Rayquaza lists. But M-Ray is 2-3 turns faster despite requiring 3 energy instead of 1.

Incineroar's only advantage is burning slam. It would be usable if it was RCC but it's RRC. It MIGHT be better with Memetini reprint coming in the next set. But it's still gonna be inferior to megafug, and you can't really wait for it to rotate out to take the spotlight since sky field is leaving with it.

Probably not until right before SM2 drops in Japan, and even then there might be more cards.

The only confirmed GX card that they haven't shown us yet is Metagross GX. It's also pretty safe to assume that Tapu Fini GX will be in the set given that the other tapus are. We've seen Toxapex, Bewear, Drampa, Vikavolt, Sylveon, Tapu Lele, Bulu and Koko, Lycanrock day/night (Day is already released as a black star but an alternate print might be included) and Kommo-o.

Of those, Drampa, Sylveon, Lele, Bulu and Night Doggo are good. Koko/day doggo are okay. Toxapex is memeworthy and Bewear/Kommo-O are pretty much garbage.

As has been pointed out, running Garb and Octillery doesn't make a lot of sense. I think removing Octllery was a good decision. Bumping up the Trainers' Mail count to 3 or 4 could help to keep up your consistency.

If you really want shaymins, the best time to get them is when a new set is released because the people who store value in them will sell them off. I got 1 shaymin for 20 SM and another for 10 and a HR Lurantis on day 1 of the set.

I'm going to snap up a playset of Lycanrock-Nights and try to build therm into a fighting deck when guardians drops. I actually had a funny expanded idea for using devolution spray+Lycanrock-Night with Primal Groudon to lysandre stall people until Groudon is powered up. Use Korrinas to get devo sprays and Lycanrock-GX out, if they pull one of your lycanrocks out just devo spray to prevent them from taking 2 prizes off of it.

Perhaps they could just do what Yugioh did and skip the first player draw.

Also going first is inherently mandatory with first turn item lock being a thing, whether it's because of FoGP bullshit or Wally bullshit. Even if you play a deck that wants to go second i.e. any deck that can set up huge attacks in one turn (Passimian, Night March, Vespiquen+FoGP, M Rayquaza, etc.) you still have to go first because if your opponent goes first and flips Oddish or Phantump there's a high likelihood you're going to lose.

Things Pokémon TCG has already tried to limit the benefit of going first that have since been abandoned (correct me if I'm remembering anything wrong):

>first player doesn't draw and can't play a Supporter
>first player does draw, but can't play any Trainer cards at all

You were also allowed to attack in all of these formats if you went first.

I've gotten 2 Shaymins pulled from ROS packs myself. The probability isn't that low.

In fact, I have 4 shaymins and I'm still buying ROS packs because I want 4 no-trade shaymins so I can sell the 3 tradable ones I have off.

Due to how the rarity system works in SM sets, there will be 3 prints of Lele in circulation rather than 2, so there will be a higher chance of pulling Lele than there is of pulling Shaymin. Lele will be super expensive the first few weeks SM2 is in circulation but will probably settle in at around 12-15 packs until rotation hits because very few decks will want more than 1 of them initially.

And if you look at the other GX we've seen so far out of that set, most of them aren't going to be that great. Bulu and Sylveon are unconditionally good and will probably be 6-8 packs but most of the rest will probably be 1-3 pack cards. That combined with the 3 print system will make getting playsets of them pretty affordable. I mean look at Tauros, it's the best card in SM, it's a GX yet you can get them for under 4 packs consistently.

Pokemon collector is a usable card in evolution decks but no, honestly in legacy most of the HGSS cards are supporters/support pokemon.

Most of the cards you build decks around are from expanded. Shaymin UL, Celebi Prime, Typhlosion Prime, Feraligatr Prime, Gengar Prime and maybe Mew Prime are the good pokemon from HGSS sets iirc.

The legacy meta in general is dominated by Virizion/Genesect/Celebi Prime/UL Shaymin decks, and the counter to that deck is Reshiram/Typhlosion Prime which usually loses to Blastoise/Black Kyurem. Rayquaza/Eelektrik and Gengar/Mew Prime decks are also out there. It's very rock paper scissorsy and with no new cards ever shaking up that meta, it gets extremely stale especially considering probably 2/3rds of the cards people use are just the pre-XY expanded cards.

Standard is generally the freshest meta while Expanded is the deepest. Legacy is a bastard child of Expanded

Yep, basically. The best decks are the most consistent decks. You dig/search through a huge amount of your deck early on to give yourself the best chance of getting set up well.

Standard is extremely fast compared to Theme (as is any format, given how slow Theme is). In Standard, if your plan is simply to wait until you draw into the cards you need, you will get flattened. Your opponent is just going to set up so much more quickly that you won't stand a chance.

Lots of free stuff. 1 free booster per 5 days, events let you get tradable boosters, ladder rewards reset every ~20 days and are like 7 packs plus ~800 tokens (about 4 packs in store) plus a bunch of useful cards, last cycle they gave out Darkrai EX which is core to one of the best decks in the game.

I'd say about 20 viable decks (defined as decks that can reasonably expect to win a RL tournament against good players without god luck) in expanded and maybe 15 in standard. There are also tons of slightly less than tournament viable decks that can definitely be played on ladder to good effect.

Tier 1 decks are a little more narrow, dark is really dominant as a color atm, Yveltal and Darkrai based decks are dominant as archetypes in both expanded and standard. But they're not unassailable. The most recent events were both won by decks that most people in the community consider t2/3.

If you translate intrigue as disruption, there's a lot of it. Delinquent, parallel city, lategame N, and Lysandre are all common features of meta decks aimed at stopping your opponent from playing their game. In expanded you get another big option in Ghetsis. There are entire decks built around energy disruption that are lowish level competitive viable.

Delinquent is particularly strong because people are tempted to play their hand down to minimize N disruption (people are usually less likely to use N when the opponent has a small hand) but if they play down to 3 cards and then get hit with a Delinquent they suddenly have to topdeck to save themselves.

With Vileplume the game will almost always come down to who won the opening flip, and then whether or not the Vileplume player bricks, and then whether or not the Vileplume player bricks after getting Plume up, and then whether or not their opponent gets a hand full of items or just can't set anything up. Vileplume will have games where it steamrolls and the opponent never gets to play, then it will have games where it gets its shit kicked in by not being able to set everything up.

FOGP isn't the problem, it's how it functions with universal item lock on a stage 2 and that partners that stage 2 wants to use. Even the most consistent version with Vespiquen/Plume/Compressor was a mess.

200 tokens = a standard set pack of your choice from the store.
8 tickets = a chance to enter a tournament where you are guaranteed to win at least one uncommon chest which is worth maybe 1/8th of a pack on the market.

Then there are the vs ladder rewards, if you complete the ladder (~200 wins, less for every upset win you achieve, usually ends up being about 170-180 wins) you get

1,050 tokens
17 tickets
5 uncommon and 1 rare chest
8 booster packs
6 selected common/uncommon cards (usually mid-high tier competitive cards)
2 EX cards (usually pretty good ones)
1 Full Art trainer card (usually lower value ones, but it's pure bling anyways)

You don't need to complete the ladder really if you don't care about the FA trainer, the last non-bling reward is at 1,670 ladder points which is 167 normal wins.

And on top of that, there are daily challenges which grant
30 tokens (common)
50 tokens (uncommon)
1 pack (rare)

The challenge you get is random but as you level up you get to pick between more of them, and after lv16 your challenge packs can be traded.

Marowak BREAK is shit and Garchomp only does 80 to anything other than an EX and needs two energy. Plus to be honest fighting types need something to make them relevant again.
Florges BREAK would take up 8 Pokemon spots at minimum for reliability, and you would still need energy acceleration of some sort. Wouldn't mind seeing some more fairy decks.
I don't know any good Dragon Pokemon, most of them require discarding energy too.
Raticate BREAK maybe but it still has low HP and can be countered in many ways.

Vileplume can make a fourth of your deck irrelevant in the first turn and make it a coin flip as to whether you can even set up. Owl can just freely poke at any Pokemon on your team without any further investment. Vespiquen has ways of discarding a lot of Pokemon and requires one DCE to start smashing away, it also doesn't rely on any abilities.

I mean sure there are probably broken situations out there but at least they have a chance at being fun.

I built this meme and after playing 40 games on expanded ladder I have a WR of 65% with it.

Granted it's not a total meme because Donphan was low tier meta viable as recently as last year. But Tauros fills the role of the old powercrept outrage dragons very well.

Only modifications I made to the deck were dropping down to 3 ultras and dropping the silver bangle for 2 muscle bands since EX cards aren't omnipresent anymore. Once choice band is added it'll be better.

The Victini deck box is really expensive because it was only available to buy several years ago. Furthermore, it could only be purchased using gems (i.e. it could only be bought by people in Canada AND they had to use real money to buy it).

Given that fewer people played the game back then and that only a small subset of them even had access to it (and only a small subset of those would have been willing to spend actual money on a virtual deck box), the supply is absolutely tiny. With so few in the game, you have to pay a lot to get hold of one.

Imagine how mad you'd be if you traded for one of these, then the following week they put it in the shop for 100 tokens.

You can setup blastoise T1 90% of the time, but water patch is harder to use all 4 before lock thats what im saying. Also things hit harder in expanded so if you lose a powered keldeo you need another pokemon with energies in the bench, what blastoise can do easier than aqua.

Coming from MtG and with how carefully they try to keep the power of cards in standard to a certain level, the idea of PTCG even entertaining the idea of this card seems absurd to me with how strong Dark Patch seemed to be.

Aqua patch actually makes Primarina GX usable. Not great, but definitely usable. The impact is probably bigger in expanded, granted item lock is a bitch but that doesn't stop dark patch from being good and Keldeo is a much better energy acceleration target than Primarina is.

Water loses dive balls after rotation though.
