I thought it was neat how he's always ahead of you in getting gym badges, until at some point you no longer see his name on the statues by the entrance when you arrive.
I think they did this in ORAS with Wally as well, but not with Brendan/May, which is odd because they specifically mention going back and getting the rest of their badges. But if you go back to those gyms and check, their name never shows up.

Would be kind of neat to arrive at a gym at the same time as a rival, and you each take separate paths through to get to the leader. So by the time you reach him, the leaders says he'll take you both on at once and you do a multi battle with your rival against him.

That's another odd thing, there are multiple instances throughout the games where you and your rival are both present and have to fight some grunts or whatever, but you each fight separately instead of it being a multi battle.
I don't necessarily want every fight to be a multi (although I do think double battles should be far more common), but some more variety would be nice.

GF got lazy as hell, got talk to Hapu's grandma in her house post game, she still tells you to follow Hapu into the ruins even though you already did AND Hapu's IN the house with her. Same with The Aether paradise shitshow. Everyone feeds you the same lines as your first visit immediately after Lusamine broke bad and the whole place went on lockdown as you battle the employees.
