I always forget just how damn many things bug is weak to, some of them don't even make sense.

I know the whole "when you can catch the fly and your training is complete" shtick, but do you really need to base a weakness on that?
That's such a weak excuse to make it weak to fighting types, like if you're gonna take it that far then you might as well make electric weak to water since pouring a glass of water on my computers guts will break it.
And why ghost, what does ghosts have to do with bugs?
Why poison when so many bugs are poisonous?
Why fire when everything living hates being immolated?

It's no wonder there's so few good bug pokemon.
Before anything else, it's an issue of the type itself.
Without just removing some of the weaknesses all that can be done is add a secondary type to help remedy their weakness problem.

Honestly I think bug just needs to be completely reworked offensively. You could just remove a few of its resistances but it's a complete mess thematically and it would be better to start from scratch. A lot of its matchups are just leftovers from previous gens that just don't make much sense. Being strong against grass makes sense, but psychic? Dark? It can't even counter those types because it doesn't resist them. When you think of bugs you think of plagues ravaging entire populations, not some puny ass butterfly that's strong against plants, people with psychic powers and people that use dirty tactics.
