Why are people running High Horsepower over EQ?
>>
>>31967184
To not hurt your partners and get more damage.
>>
>>31967184
High Horsepower does more single target damage and doesn't hit your teammate
>>
>>31967184
It's single target.
>>
>>31967184
Grassy terrain puts a negative effect on EQ but not HH
>>
>>31967184
The better question would be: Why the fuck does Snorlax even get High Horsepower?
>>
>>31967184
I forgot it was doubles, riiiiight.
>>
>>31967264
I would've thought the better question would be why even bother running Ground as coverage? HH tends to be coverage for the Cursesets but it doesn't even really hit anything of worthwhile besides Marowak which isn't even that hard to break and Metagross which everyone seems to pack half a team of things which beat it.

Gengar gets virtually no use and other ghosts could be covered easier and the two most used Steel types take fuck all from it and beat you handily. Most other stuff get pretty easily smacked around with Return too.
>>
>>31967417
+1 116+ Atk Snorlax Return vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Tapu Koko: 130-154 (89 - 105.4%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO

+1 116+ Atk Snorlax High Horsepower vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Muk-Alola: 180-212 (84.9 - 100%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO

It's mostly for things like these.
>>
What's your favorite "thing" you've been using recently?

Pokemon, Moveset, Lead, Pair, Meme, etc.

I've starting using Mimikyu lately and the little fucker has pulled it's weight amazingly. I'm surprised at how good it is, Disguise is a blessing and it is deceptively hard-hitting. Lots of utility too.
>>
>>31967765
I've been having a lot of success with Gastrodon recently, barring the obvious shit like Kartana or Ninetales it's really hard to kill, and can easily deal with stuff like Chomp which my team has some trouble with.
>>
>>31967765
I like wide guard. So far I'm only in theorymon stage, but wideguard + garchomp beats koko (unless twinkle tackle), and wide guard + nihilego beats garchomp.

Also been trying out smeargle. Despite misty and electric terrain everywhere, spore is still quite useful. The only thing to be worried about is whether I'll outspeed opposing arcanine or lele. I tried out icy wind on it for some speed control, but every time it would've been useful, the opponent protected. I'll put tailwind on it next time I play.
>>
>>31967800
>I've been having a lot of success with Gastrodon recently,
You saying this feels surreal considering it was like yesterday when Gastrodon was fucking everywhere. Sasuga metagame.
>>
>>31967765
I've been still trying to find a last slot with my team, so I'm about to throw alolan exeggutor on it, just not sure how to run it. I really need something to deal with gastrodon+gigalith.
>>
>>31967881
>I really need something to deal with gastrodon+gigalith.
I like dealing with those with my sp atk Celesteela. No one ever expects the Giga Drain on the shitty slug.
>>
>>31967881
Why don't you just use Kartana?
>>
>>31967898
I haven't gotten any of my tapus or UBs to 100 so I haven't bothered using them, and kartana can't take a hit. My team is overly specific so eggy's really the only thing that fits the slot from what I can tell, even considering the previously mentioned UBS or Tapus
>>
>>31967898
Bulu is also a choice. Any grass type really.
>>
>>31967905
>I haven't gotten any of my tapus or UBs to 100
Do I even need to say it?
>>
>>31967910

>>
>>31967910

No, no grass types can really do what Kartana does and that is taking out the Tapu's pretty reliably with simple but effective coverage. It also outspeeds all of them except for scarf variants and Koko.

Bulu is kind of pathetic really, since grassy terrain is really bad outside some niches and mass EQ teams.

Kartana is crazy good this meta and can't be replaced really.
>>
>>31967935
>Bulu, bloomdoom(woodhammer) ohko's P2 and Snorlax, with helping hand it ohko's A- Muk
>>
>>31967800
I tried using the sea slug and I like how it softens the offense of a bunch of crap till people realized they could simply nuke it with Lele instead of trying to play round it and it can't really do shit.

Fuck that pink cunt.

>>31968138
Probably doesn't help that there is a retarded lack of Steel type choices in this meta and some retarded designer at GF thought it was okay to give it 181 atk and 109 speed with no real downside like maybe lack of coverage was perfectly okay.

I mean the only Steel types which are worth anything are those who pack coverage against themselves.

>>31968270
Actually is there a reason we don't see HH like at all in this meta?

Running a few calcs it's kind of crazy how many big threats in this meta get completely blown away by a simple HH. It's not even a uncommon move, some of the best utility/support mons in this meta have it as option.

>>31968394
I can see an offensive arcanine set running it since all the cancer dog of healthy meta needs is wild charge+flare blitz in terms of attacking moves
>>
>>31968441
>Not running ESpeed
Sub 1000 shitter detected.
>>
>>31968454
I didn't say it was a good idea to not run that, but it doesn't really need espeed. It doesn't need most of the shit it does have. Arcanine has the movepool of a normal type with the benefit of not being normal type and having a good ability, it's dumb.
>>
>>31968468
I use blitz + espeed instead of wild charge purely because it's useful to pick off stuff and it hits everything for neutral except rock mons, of which there are only two relevant ones.

If arcanine can't do much damage in a turn, chances are that its partner probably can, so helping hand is very useful for that.
>>
>>31968569
Wild Charge is a meme.

If Fini bothers you that much that you need to pack Wild Charge your team is shit to begin with with so many options to kill her.
>>
>>31968429
What's the entry fee?
>>
>>31968998
$30
>>
>>31969243
That's ridiculous.

I pray to god that next year circuit is much better. I'll finally be able to go to live events so I'd like to have a realistic chance to get to worlds.
>>
>>31969408
Cost of the event entry is hardly an issue.

The real problem is the lack of events and stupid point distribution. I mean it takes like 500CP to qualify for worlds I think? Winning an international is 500 so automatic worlds qualification if you win is understandable.

But regional being 200 for a win meaning you need at least a minimum of 3 events to qualify. Most countries barely even get 1-2 event per year which pretty much excludes anyone who can't fly all over the continent.
>>
>>31969547
Yeah, TPCi went full retard this year.
>>
>>31969547
That's what I was referring to.

As much as a faggot as he was about it, Arash is right to be butthurt. Yurops in general really, they always get fucked over.
>>
>>31969569
Arguably, Asia/Pacific get fucked over even worse than Europe.

Europe at least gets 16 World spots allocated across the continent, Asia/Pacific gets a total of like 8 when they basically shit all over Europe in terms of community size.

>Tfw live in Mexico.

Nobody knows yet true suffering dudes. The only way to get points here is the occasional Premier Challenge, doing awesome in the International Challenges or flying all over to Brazil or Chile to win their premier challenges or regional in Brazil.
Even more fucked are the dudes in Africa I guess.

In conclusion, the VGC circuit is basically morphing into a US only entry at this rate, so much for "connecting everyone together" around the world.
>>
>>31969678
>is basically morphing
Since I learned about the existence of VGC, that's how VGC has always appeared to me. US or bust.

Honestly, I'd say that some LA places are doing better than Yurop.

I have no idea how things are in Mexico though, I used to know about them yeaaaaaaars ago when Pokemex was a thing.
>>
>>31969691
At least from what I've seen Chile and Brazil are the only ones getting some kind of steady support in LA.
In Mexico the only Pokémon events are TCG ones, in fact I think they're the reason that there's a random Premier here and there in the country.

But that's the point. With how fucked is the system in Japan and how they're fucking Yurop in this season worlds will basically be:
2 jap dudes, 10 yurop dudes and the rest will be filled with US guys.
While it's not bad since it's the host country some support for other places would be appreciated.

If the Lele is scarfed I'd obviously do a different thing.
>>

what's the set then?
>>
>>31969789
I was pretty baffled when I found out the LA International was gonna be in BR but then I found out they actually have a lively and constant VGC scene. I was pretty surprised, I thought they only played TCG.

Chile and Argentina are the other places I've seen have lively scenes too. Colombia stuff going around too.

Speaking of Mexico, I think there's a Reg in Mexico June and I'll be around there during those dates so I'll try to attend. Perhaps we can meet-up during then or something.

Lele's base speed is 95, while Mimikyu is 96. You can probably figure out how to outspeed it every time (othern than Scarf) with that.

>>
>>31970144
There were a bunch of LatAm people in 2016 worlds, but most of them died on day 1. The few that made it to day 2 ended up bubbling out.

Speaking of bubbling out, someone from Mexico almost made it to top cut in 2015 (he ended up 9th).

The retarded tournament structure that makes people advance based on things they can't control (i.e. other people's performance) is something I really hope they change in the future.

>>
>>31972079
Nope.
Really just started to look at the actual tournaments now and it looks... really bad.
>>
>>31972091
You haven't looked really far then. Also, ABR's team was a Smogon OU team that dominated the ladder after it was posted online (although it only got super popular after a youtuber used it).

This is one of the most recent tournament finishes (OP's pic) >>31916972
>>
>>31972091
The team that won posted here >>31972112
isn't copied because the guy who made it made it to suit his playstyle, while the guy who won the most recent tournament has a fairly simple and easy to use team that only won the tournament because of using an unexpected combination of mons and sets alongside being piloted by a world champion. Seeing the same team constantly on battle spot might be frustrating, but if you're at least somewhat knowledgeable it's free wins.

If you don't want to run TR with Araquanid you're pretty much stuck with trying to play it defensively (not advisable with Koko being more common than ingame Zubat's) or one of those utterly insane special variations.

Its too early to tell actually. But in a speed and terrain obsessed meta with Celesteela seeing less us, it is a good choice.

It's got 116 speed, that puts it like in the upper echelons of this meta, literally the only things of any relevance which can outspeed it are Scarf users and Koko and it pretty much farts support moves because it has so many it doesn't know what to do with most of them.

It was a matter of time once someone figured out how they wanted to use it and on a technicality it has the fastest non-situational Tailwind available. Though obviously not of relevance with a non-Prankster one.

That wasn't the point, it does sometimes take quite close to an hour in Swiss.
