Gen 8 is called Ebony and Ivory
The region is based on Africa (mostly Madagascar) and the region is called Serengeti

Around 100 new Pokémon programmed to be done

The evil team is called Team Soul

The box Legendary are called: Treebony (Dark Grass) for Pokémon Ebony (is a huge black tree based on a rook) and Ivoright (fairy/steel) (based on a Bishop). The third legendary is called Sylphidiana (water/ghost) and it's based on a Queen from the chess (it's a mermaid with a dead whale skeleton as tail)

There were trials here as well but the new pokémon league just reached the region, so the newborn gyms are back.

The Hms are back but in a different way: they are moves that you can teach to the pokémon outside the battle, like an ability. For example flying pokemon are able to fly, water pokémons are able to surf etc...

The regional variants are back: one example is the Serengeti Phanpy and Donphan that are now water and water/flying (based on Dumbo)

I heard Gen 8 was a prequel, starring a young Sam Oak, somewhat lower tech in-setting.
This way a lot of item-dependent mechanics can be cut for balance.

The starters are:
Elenion (a lil elephant with an onion bulb on the head). It evolves into Baobhant (Grass/steel mammoth-like pokemon with a huge baobab on the head)

Heabbit (fire rabbit pokemon) that evolves into Spirithare (fire/fairy)

Gen 8 is Pokemon Legacy and Pokemon Destiny, and it's set in the Noska region, which is basically Scandinavia

The starters are Leafawn, Embant, and Rainewt, their final forms are based on the Magic Girl, Henshin/Sentai Hero, and Kaiju archetypes (Grass/Fairy, Fire/Bug, Water/Ice)

The legends are based off of Jorgumandr (Legacy) and Fenrir (Destiny)

The gyms are back, but they're run by "clans" now, like each of these families have a tradition of specializing in a different type
