It was sixth most popular starter line period in the overall poll in Japan last year, Oshawott was the second most popular first stage starter behind only Piplup, ninth most popular third and second stage starter, the most popular of the Unova starters for each individual stage as well as the grouped line in said poll.

And just yesterday it was the clear winner of the US Twitter poll for the Unova starters with a 7% lead over Snivy which had a 9% lead on Tepig.

Of course it's going to be Froakie, but only because everyone already knows what it turns into. That being Greninja, of course. I know people like to think they already liked it and like to pretend he was never promoted until he got popular, but for some reason Sakurai picked it over the rest before the game even released. There was some reason why Greninja got a clearly much superior ability over the rest. There was definitely a reason why Greninja got the starter role for Ash in the anime too and there was a reason why he got a bond form over the rest. Even its theme stands out compared to the rest. You've got a knight, a mage and of course, the ninja, which Japan adores.

Chespin's still my bro though, it definitely ain't some Twitter poll that's going to change that. I don't really mind people liking what they like, but at the same time, I can't really say there wasn't a bias over the line. But, each starter fell into a role and between the fire mage fox and the water ninja frog, of course the grass knight pangolin/armadillo/hedgehog felt the most unattractive when compared to them. The other two simply felt cooler to many compared to the bulkier, slower armor clad shrew. I'm coming out and saying this as a Chespin-Quilladin-Chesnaught fan, who isn't really afraid of what others might think of it.

There's some serious rigging going on with this poll - first with Fennekin suddenly getting a lot of votes and pulling ahead, then Froakie coming back with an even bigger lead than it did originally. I have no doubt Froakie is the most popular of the 3 but I really don't think it's actually that much more popular.

The numbers are almost identical to Kanto now, despite Kanto starters being seen as more "iconic" and around for 20 years. They had several games and even were on the boxes of those games. On the other you have Kalos starters which had just one game (XY) and one of them had non-stop promotion across all Pokemon media while the other two were just there. There's a reason why i explicitly mentioned only Greninja in my original post. If you were there at the time that the Kalos Starters were revealed, you'd know that Fennekin was the instant draw for fans of the series. Before Froakie's eveo were revealed, everyone expected to choose Fennekin. Which also explains why Fennekin on its own was more popular. After Frogadier and Greninja were revealed, many of those people jumped ship. That's what i was referring to.

This isn't to mention that the poll just asks who you chose when you first played the game, so if people are answering honestly there's a large section of normies who didn't pay attention to leaks who wouldn't have been affected by what the final forms look like.

It's a given, considering it's the fanbase with the most chance of rigging a poll (since they're more numerous), disregard the few people that don't care about no poll numbers and just pick it just because they like the frog rather than vote to prove a "point". Fennekin line's fanbase is not too far behind either. Chespin's fanbase is the one with least chance given that they're a smaller number and as such, there aren't that many people of that caliber among them.
