Just to remind: Mimikyu disguises itself because it wants to pretend being a nice creature such as a Pikachu, not because it has malicious intentions, just to make it easier for others to accept it, despite it's true nature.

They're considered Pika clones because they're meant to have a similar appeal to Pikachu. They're all electric mice, or at least mouse-like creatures, and have a pretty similar appeal. I don't think people would mind as much if each generation wasn't obligated to have one.
