Are megas really completely done with? Some of them are fucking sick

Masuda said they only downplayed them in SM to focus on Z-moves.

We can only hope. Zmoves as a whole just failed to capture the same impact that mega evolutions did. The only thing they have going for them is that anything an use them.

I don't know what they were thinking with z moves. All z moves did is increase power creep and make things that were already broken, even more broken. Can you believe that there was actually a point that Salamance/Gyarados with moxie was UU? But then z moves came out and effectively gave salamance/gyarados a nuke button that makes getting moxie off easy. Then there's quiver dance/bloom doom volcarona that makes quick work of any water type counters and has become very popular recently, especially with the nerfing of talonflame.

Z-moves are pretty much Gen5 Gems reworked so that anything can be unpredictable. In the end, this unpredictability ruined it, because unless it's something as common as Z-Fly/Stone Edge Landorus-T because it's literally everywhere, you can't tell when you're going to get cteamed.

This is another reason I don't like them. They make the prediction game a lot harder because even a resisted Zmove is likely to kill whatever the unfortunate target is. A lot of them are essentially a "delete one enemy pokemon" button.

I think GF should still release the rest of the gems at some point - I think they have their niche even when Z-Crystals are a thing. Like how they get consumed, or how multiple members of a party can use different gems (unlike Z-Crystals), or how they boost any move of the gem's type by 1.5, which is in contrast to Z-Crystals that can boost an attack by much more.

AFAIK it really depends on who's hitting what. I've seen a few CybertronVGC videos where someone doesn't necessarily get a KO with a Z-Move. Plus Z-Moves are still subject to ability/type-related immunities, and while Protect doesn't fully make you invulnerable, having your opponent waste a Z-Move only for it to do 1/4 of the damage is pretty nice.
