Have you counted the number of enterable houses in Alola? Most of them will fit on your fingers, along with most of them belonging to important NPCs instead of generic ones. Fuck, even the Sevii Islands had more enterable houses.

Po Town is also great, I always wanted a "city in ruins". They could make Tapu Town with more ruins too.

But I think that since Gen V they are putting more personality into the cities.

I'd disagree with you on that last part, since a big part of added personality for me is lore, which was at their heights in Gen 4. Stuff like Olivine Lighthouse was built on the same spot where Pokemon used to guide ships with their lights, that's the great stuff. I'd have loved an explanation for why Courmarine has a tram in the middle of the city.

Po Town is also great, aesthetically. Though Tapu Village is an embarrassment after Ruins of Alph

Paniola Town was pretty good

Village Bridge is my favourite human settlement, but overall I think Johto has the most nice towns.

Alola is definitely the worst, I don't find any of them to be memorable or interesting save Po Town.

More cities isnt immediately a positive, because Kalos, Hoenn and Sinnoh have so much dead weight towns in my opinion. But Alola is just so barren it's embarrassing.

Sinnoh is the best and Alla the worst, IMO

I like all of them except Kanto and Alola, which Kanto is bland as fuck but could be improved a lot in a future remake and Alola is the epitome of "wow it's fucking nothing.3ds" and unless they go all the way back to the drawing board will remain that way

Many of the towns have specific themes rather recognizable themes compared to some of the other towns in other regions. It's been while but I do believe Kanto Hoenn and Johto have the same town music for several towns. Coud be wrong though.

I liked the Sinnoh towns. I can easily tell what they are if you play their music. Unova is the most urban region we've gotten yet so I think that wins best towns. Alola is by far the worst. Jesus Christ fucking atrocious.

The game does a good job of fooling us at the start with the distant views on Route 1 as you climb that hill, only for the region to turn out quite small.

Sure, they only had limited cartridge space to work with compared to Gen 6 what with around 80 new Pokemon and new Z move animations to cram in on top of the previous games' models and animations, but surely they could have sacrificed a few of the graphical features to add more places to visit to Alola (eg the golf course, enterable buildings).

I love how dense Melemele is and the number of areas that become accessible after you finish the grand trial or later, not to mention that battling Ilima before his trial was fun and the encounter rate issues are nowhere as bad as the other islands. Johto, Sinnoh and Unova had great towns. Hoenn has some cool ones like Paficidlog but in general it's kinda weak. Laverre City and it's theme was fucking excellent and the route leading up to it was great, but it's pretty much the only particularly good one on Kalos. Kanto and Alola are kinda meh.
