Well, to be fair as someone who did this gen 4, 5 and half of 6 you kill the game doing so. As soon as you can get everything you want with barely any effort the gains become empty and the game meaningless. That's why often you end up doing giveaways, to share some of that power and give it meaning. Doing it the "old" way you extend the life period of the game and avoid killing it prematurely.
