Hey, thanks for your comment. I honestly didn't want to take up too much space mentioning other regions and would rather focus on johto. I could go forever with Gen 6's X and Y quite easily for example The point was that every region has flaws and yet they can be loved almost obsessively, kinda like Gen 1 and in your case, Johto. Plus I mentioned those because I want to touch on some of them at a later date. Stay posted.

Every gen has flaws, and anybody who only sees the ones on games they dislike is an idiot. But you aren't making a good case by showing off how HG/SS has to compare itself to every game ever in order to make its flaws seem reasonable.

I love the beasts so fucking much.

Their designs incorporate a perfect mixture of ferocity and nobility. I can never really tell if they're graceful and majestic or terrifyingly imposing because the blend of all these traits is so seamless. It's kind of like real lions but a lot better.

At least that goes for Raikou and Entei. Suicune leans more towards graceful than intimidating, since it's smaller and has a less regal posture than Entei, while not having prominent claws and teeth like Raikou. Not that it's a bad thing, I still love Suicune.

I also love their manes and how they represent a thundercloud, volcanic smoke and aurora borealis. They're such cool design elements. Honestly I feel the three are the visually best designed Pokémon in the series by a long shot.

I actually enjoyed Mt. Coronet, I just noticed quite a few people on here and reddit who didn't enjoy it when it was first released. And I can see why they didn't like it I guess. But it's really comes form the problem with HMs more than anything. Which is seemingly fixed now with Gen 7.

Relax OP. You don't have to get so defensive about liking HGSS. Besides you already told us their weak points so there's not really much to discuss.

Personally Johto games are amongst my faves but think that Platinum did everything they did but better, especially when it comes to crossgen evos and babies. I also loved Mt. Coronet and HMs so there's that.

OP here. It appears that I've gotten some understandable criticism.

I figured that my way of posting was rather iffy, and I apologize for that. I can't seem to delete the thread and start over though.

Also I don't hate the other games. I really like them. I just want to talk about my favorites because I think that I can contribute to people that are on the same wavelength.

Also my choice of typing and saying things here was chosen by the stuff that I observed while being here. If any of it offends you, I'm sorry and it wasn't my intention.

I think my appeal and some others appeal to G/S/C and the remakes comes from what it gave to the franchise. It introduced many features that made Pokemon seem like actual living creatures. Breeding, Pokeathlon, and holding items are some examples. Day and Night, Friendship. These games seemed to be all about the relationship between you and your Pokemon.

The level curve is a flaw, but I think that while it is definitely the worst in the series, it doesn't take too much away from the game. Grinding is a chore but you don't have to do it because the E4 is also pretty low leveled.

My most important argument is that I think that the Gen 2 games provide the most adventure-like game in the core series games. It's rather non-linear and there are quite a few things to do that are separate from the story. The villains are awful enough that they don't require you to take a detour from your goal to be the best in order to save the world.

I don't like the way OP goes about it.
To me, gen 2, is like the Burning Crusade of the Pokémon franchise, it introduced many, many features, some of which were pretty ahead of their time on the GB/GBC.

To me, it was a perfect "All you liked about the previous game... enhanced!" without the dumb down games sequels go through these days.

Many gen2 fans have legit reasons other then "muh nostalgia" to be so passionate about that game whenever it comes up.

Gen 2 added, build and improved on its prequel, it evolved from it in a familiar way, part of this could be attributed to the fact that it was direct sequel, a part 2, a "more of what you liked, but better!", it just felt right.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Message boards on fire over whether GS should be remade after the FRLG announcement. I watched brilliant fan remake romhacks before the release of the DS. All those moments will be lost in time, like Johto fansites. Time to die.

But thats wrong. Gen 1's pacing is actually good, until the very end, but it's suppose to be like that, considering they're called the Elite 4. It'd be silly if the 4 best trainers in the entire region (and the champion) were either lesser or on par with you. I did a playthrough of 6 mons and my levels were always around the same levels of each gym leader.

This, it was a true sequel, not a reboot. Every generation afterwards has been a soft reboot to a greater or lesser degree, in an effort to capture the new generations. Gen III honestly was alienating to the kids who had been playing until then, specially considering you couldn't transfer your old mons over. The sequel-vs-reboot spirit is as much, or even more, part of the reasons for liking or disliking gen II as the objective stuff like leveling curves.

Here's my problems with Johto. No one cares, but I'll still post it.

They're shit. Meganium is the most disappointing thing to come out of Pokemon. Typhlosion is discount Zard with a worse design. Gatr is okay, but still nothing great.

Half of them are shit. And I don't mean that as in they don't suit my personal taste. I mean no one gives a shit about them and no one would care if they were erased right now.
Noctowl is the worst regional bird, Furret isn't the worst but it's still pretty shit, then there's shit like Jumpluff, Forretress, Magcargo, Corsola, Octillery. The most forgettable Pokemon are from Johto. Most of the memorable Pokemon either evos and pre-evos of Kanto Pokemon,with a few good original Pokemon sprinkled in.

>Gym Leaders
Literally whos. The only ones that do ANYTHING, Whitney, Jasmine and Clair, are all just annoying. Still, being annoying is better than the nothing Chuck or Bugsy has to offer.

Even bigger literally whos. The only thing memorable about them is that they're Team Rocket.

>Region
Kanto looks Godly compared to it. More than half the towns are just a couple of houses. The remaining are better, but still pretty fucking weak compared to every other region. Other than the towns, there's really nothing else notable to talk about.

See a pattern? I can go on like forever, but the point is, Johto is bland and boring. There's nothing special about it, except for the fact you can leave Johto and travel Kanto. That's the biggest thing about Johto. There's no real reason to play a Johto game over any other, except for the length.
But at least be happy knowing that Johto games are, and likely will forever be the most overrated games in the series.

My main problem is that the "new" Johto Pokemon are rare on the Johto games while every route has good old kanto pokemon. Same with Gym leaders, Bugsy, the worst offender, has Ledian, Ariados, Heracross, Pineco, Yanma and Shuckle at his disposal, but instead we get Kakuna, Metapod and Scyther.
