Essentially, a caught Pokemon (barring the ATK IV glitch) rolls a "dice" of sorts, between 0 and 15, and that's the IV. However, egg Pokemon do it slightly differently. For each IV, they roll the dice 3 times, and take the highest - so, your chance of getting, say, a 15 IV in DEF is not 1 in 16, as per a wild Pokemon, but rather about 1 in 11 (because instead of having only one chance to get a 15, you have 3 chances, so your chances of missing it entirely are (15/16)3, and so your chance of getting it is 1 minus that).

The mean hatched Pokemon comes out at 77.8%, but the distribution is skewed somewhat - there's a larger cluster at the upper end of the scale and then a long thin tail downwards, so the median is somewhat higher at exactly 80% (that's 36/45). Given this is literally unachievable for some wild Pokemon from what we know (e.g., no wild or nest Bulbasaur recorded to my knowledge with higher than 3 IV in ATK, therefore maxing out at 33/45 or 73.3%), this means that Eggs are actually a very good proposition, although this was always obvious.

What's more interesting is that we can now figure out whether to wait for another Egg or not. For example, if your Gastly is >80%, you know it is in the top 50% of hatched Gastly. If it is <80%, you might want to wait and try for another Egg if possible.

And if you're aiming for the elusive 15/15/15? Well, the odds are 0.54% - so roughly one in every 180 eggs. It's not great... but much better than the one in every 4096 you'd have to catch from the wild assuming that ATK IVs weren't glitched, and still better than the one in every 256 wild Pokemon for those with a Pokedex number approximately 120 or greater.

One last cool fact? If this is right, there is a 1 in 68,719,476,736 chance of hatching a 0/0/0 Pokemon. Better hope it's not you!

The Magikarp was "breathtaking" before the update, I evolved after the patch. Now it "has certainly gained her attention"
Maybe I messed up and evolved the wrong one but I double checked before evolving. Last I knew you couldn't transfer starred Pokémon.
I wouldn't care if it wasn't a Gyarados.

I doubt this would ever happen, but what if they gave us an optional team change. It would completely eliminate Instinct, but the way it is now, Instincts like me have a huge disadvantage. It would also make the game less competitive, because everyone living near me would change to mystic. This would make the game boring, but I wish there was a way for me to hold a gym for more than a few hours. I am lucky to have a few fellow instincts in my area, but the vast majority is mystic.

Bad luck. I got a Metal Coat yesterday. Then a Metal Coat + Dragon Scale on my 7 day streak today.

I spend my lunch breaks battling nearby gyms, and my fiancée doesn't put nearly as much time into gyms as I do so I generally add her into an open slot once I take down the gym. I'll admit that it's not the most sportsmanlike conduct, but it's what I do.

Today it turned out she took a late lunch break (as did I), and she was hunting around her office while I was out battling. When I logged into her account to drop a defender in the gym, I got the red Error banner and her 'mon was not added. I tried again, logged out/in and tried again, and still got Error. I texted her asking if she was currently playing, and of course, she was.

It seems that this put an instaban on her account. Now when she tries to login, she either gets "Unable to authenticate" or it just spins indefinitely. So now I'm facing the fact that I got her hundreds-of-dollars-and-hours-invested Level 31 account banned, and she will resent me for it forever.

I live in a water biome so I'm lucky enough to have 3 dragonites. With the latest update it seems that Dragon tail is stronger than dragon breath on offense unless you dodge every quick attack (which I don't as it takes too long for my liking) and stronger than steel wing on defense as well even though it isn't SE against ice. I feel like legacy moves, especially on very sought after pokemon like dragonite, which people put a lot of time and effort into obtaining and leveling up, should be at least equal to new moves.

I don't look at the meta much so I thought it may be some kind of meme mon like it is in the game with the ridiculous defense it has.

Also, i've been getting a lot of pinaps so basically I always use them if it's a pokemon I don't see often and is low CP/easy to catch.

After 24 hours spoofing around my neighborhood and catching everything, I have been finally softbanned (I didn't teleport, just literally "walked" to places I could walk to).

Results? The fun I had today alone is bigger than the fun I've had since I got a new cell phone last month and was playing only during my commute and back.

It had 3 Omistars with high CP, and the owners all were wearing generic outfits and had weird names, so I assumed it was some spoofer.

Still went and trained up the gym and put in my Rhydon for the 10 coins, but apparently it's already gone down.

I saw a grouping of a bunch of Valor gyms, they were all level ten except for one which was at 3000/4000 with two Blissey in it

But then again, that probably would just get them replaced with some spoofer's 10 pokemon, so it really isn't worth it.

They should just let us stack berries. It would encourage you to keep visiting Pokestops to replenish.
It would be more useful if Pinap brought the Pokemon to the center of the screen and prevented it from jumping, moving, or attacking for 10 seconds. You could then land a perfect throw pretty easily.

I can't confirm anything, but it seems to me that ever since the moveset rebalance yesterday, pokeball physics have been very slightly adjusted, edging a bit towards how they used to be. It seems as though the floatiness/soaring factor has been brought down a touch. (That's good imo. Curveball great throws were impossible before). I've found that I can pretty consistently throw great/curve throws again, BUT this may just be me gaining new muscle memory.

It doesn't matter that Dragonite resists more types because nobody is gonna attack it with any of those types. Almost everyone will use an Ice-type if they have one, or at least a Pokémon with an Ice-type move (Blastoise, Golduck, even Tentacruel) because of its double weakness. Tyranitar is weak to Water and Grass and both are common types but it's only a single weakness. It does have a double weakness to Fighting-type moves, but good Fighting-type Pokémon are hard to come by. Neither is a fantastic defender, but sitting high in a gym is more important, anyway.
