Dirt, sand and ground is not alive, you can put it over poison and it will eliminate it without damage.

The real reason is >>31853013, but the logical reason is that poison's effectiveness relies primarily on its concentration. If you dilute a poison, it doesn't hurt you as badly. We consume toxins on a regular basis that are diluted with something else.
I think water and poison should be weak to each other.
Poison attacks pollute water while water attacks purify poison.
