Whoever said, "don't sweat the small stuff." Was an idiot.

Now. Think about all the small stuff in games that make you sweat in a good way. I'll start with two from hgss.

The fact that you can actually surf east from new bark into kanto after the fourth badge. And pic related getting the 7th badge after morty as well as red gyara and rocket hideout I.
The non linearity of johto in general.

The second is being able to catch wild fully evolved mons such as slowbro, golduck, tentarcuel, etc. 20 levels before they evolve by level up. Now we know how Lance got his level 50 dragonite (maybe he got it in isshu?)
But anyways what are yours? (Use any pkmn game.)
>>
Polishing the badges in Sinnoh games.
>>
This post reads like a badly-worded blog post.

"Don't sweat the small stuff" means don't let little things bother you. What you're saying makes no sense.
>>
I love the score on the Trainer Card in Gen 4 games.

It's a cool way of showing how much time and effort you put into the game. Time played is too easy to cheat by just leaving the game on when you're doing something else.
>>
I love how the first three towns in ORAS zoom out and pan over them when you read the slogan sign and hate how literally every town after them don't

This one is great. I loved getting them all shiny.

I have another, in bw2 (and maybe bw1?)
Being able to catch wild kingdra as well as wild stone evolution mons thru the "special spot" feature.

Also in bw2 via dream radar being able to start the game with the genies and lugia/ho-oh at lvl5 before the first badge. (It's interesting in challenge mode.)

There are also lvl 30ish machokes, seakings, golbat, and raticates mount mortar. Also the preE4 route with ponyta, quagsire, arbok/sandslash at lvl 30. Not to mention all the trainer rematches you can have before the league.

It was weird doing this because I was used to having elm call you right after pryces gym to tell you about rockets at the radio tower. But getting seven badges total triggers elms call.

Elite four rematches. Any game without them is lackluster. A perfect pkmn game has: maingame, elite four, some post game (level up your team by 10 levels, give or take) then a final elite four rematch with different teams. That should be fucking standard, even frlg did it.

Another thing gym leader rematches. (Not in a battle facility.) Another thing that hgss did best. Sinnoh did this well and emerald had great rematches they were just luck based on when they would be ready.
>>
>>31860536
Gotta disagree with you, I love most of the UI changes but the item menu was awful.
Gen 5 had the best one, it was a much faster version of the Platinum menu and had the free space bag.

It's possible someone could have done it better, but spreading the xp out over 16 badges and having every path taken be nice, clean and even as far as levelling goes must be challenging. They had ten years to smooth this out and they didn't change much, which tells me the Asian market didn't care or looked past such flaws, rather flaws in some people's eyes. I like the mini panic when you don't think you'll be on par with the e4 and you have to grind a little to feel safe. It's challenge, not much, but some. With pokegrooming, zmoves/megas, and hideously broken exp. Share, (whether you left it on or not, it's brokenness remains.) You can't help but be over leveled and each battle is progressively more yawn inducing as your big shiny glowing thing walks over another lvl 23 linoone. Also why the funk does catching pokemon give you xp now? So either barely catch anything or your money in first position will be over leveled. It's a clusterfuck, and I know we on vp have talked about it ad nauseum so I'll stop here.
>>
>>31860630
>Doing this while nuzlocking
HGSS are hands down the best (non-hacked) games for nuzlocking. Even though it's not the hardest game it feels like a true journey and it has a final boss in red that is quite challenging if you purposefully stay low-leveled.

You could do this in the original GSC anyways?

Also it's nice, but HGSS kinda ruined it for me with the stupid Kimono girls and Ho-Oh/Lugia being apart of the story. You couldn't go back to Kanto until you finished their stupid story, your Mom kept stopping you in the game.
>>
>>31864381
>So are most of us in agreement that HGSS were the last games GameFreak really poured their (for lack of better words) Heart and Soul into?
Personally I think BW2 were the last games they really tried with, the lack of effort really started with XY.

>>31864426
You're right, thanks for the info.
>>
>>31864381
>PWT
Battle Frontier was way better and you could rematch 16 Gym Leaders anyway.
>Gen 4 HMs
The only thing added was Rock Climb and make you unable to forget Rock Smash. Rock Climb was fine IMO since it allowed new areas to explore after beating the game.
>>
>>31864467
XY were the games when the lack of effort started but I still felt like I played a Pokemon game at the end. SM felt like it took 5 months to make and nothing in it was natural at all.

Every route was unappealing and there were no cave exploration because the game couldn't handle anything worth a damn. Worst game by far.
>>
>>31864381
Non-reusable TMs Is a good thing.
>>
>>31864726
Nah. XY and ORAS are way worse than Sun and Moon.
At least sun and Moon feels like a real world (even if it is a boring one)
>>
>>31864772
I guess you forgot how Team Flare actually felt like a threat at the end and didn't give up mid way through the game. The games also added the best competitive layout in the franchise with the Battle Spot and Mega Evolution while SM only had a story about animal and child abuse and a harder Battle Maison.

The only reason why people prefer SM is because it's something new with good characters design wise.
>>
>>31864916
I don't really want to fight since that's not what this thread is about. But I just felt completely differently about Team Flare as a whole and I felt that the routes in particular in XY felt really slapped together and odd.
I guess to put it simply, XY and ORAS felt fake.
>>
>>31850632
Sauce?
>>
>>31864726
>SM felt like it took 5 months to make and nothing in it was natural at all.

I enjoyed SM, but I do agree. It felt very weird and at times not like a Poke game.
>>
>>31865077
I don't think a Pokemon game should have villains who barely do anything except take Pokemon and travel to an unknown world filled with jellyfish and the routes take like 5 minutes to complete.

It's the exploration, the soundtrack, and the atmosphere that makes the previous games tons better, not the animation and graphics.

>>
>>31864381
>So are most of us in agreement that HGSS were the last games GameFreak really poured their (for lack of better words) Heart and Soul into?
